Not eating but been in one for a couple of work sponsored bevvies today, felt really weird but it was free beer so didn't complain.

Was meant to be out with a couple of mates for beer and curry tonight. Mate called it off at the last minute due to having a cold. I guess we can wait another week.

Had a lovely meal on Friday night.

I decided to tackle a tomahawk steak for the first time. (£30)

Holy crap. It would have fed both of us with some to spare.

As it was I brought half of it home for sandwiches.

I had the opposite last night. Was one of them poncy places that love tiny portions.

I had the steak and almost laughed when it arrived. 2 small circles barely 2" diameter.

I'd have kicked off but it was my pal's daughter's 18th and he was making it all a special day for her.

Most the team here got together for a meal on Friday night, 16 of us in total.

Lovely meal, nice chat and banter, but £38!! I can buy a weeks worth of food for that, but also, we carried on drinking until midnight, when I got home I was still buzzing until I went to bed at 2AM !

Anybody else looking at pub/restaurant bills and thinking, 'Fuck me...did it used to be this expensive?'

Either I've lost all sense of what a decent night out cost 18 months ago, or prices have been hiked. Certainly my local pub is adding service charge to the bill as it's table service, which is fair enough, but my local 'real ale' place is about 20% a pint more than it used to be. Looking at the menu in a local restaurant the other night it all seemed a bit trumpier than it used to be. Certainly the wine had been hiked c. a fiver as I always go for a particular bottle in there so I know the price.

Me and the missus did £130 in the Chinese last week, another £140 with the kids for a Sunday roast and then another £150 Monday night in Cambridge with the kids again. Eating out is pricey......

Yep. We’ve been out 3 times since things opened. I would say our regular haunts are at least 15% more expensive - and bear in mind they still have the 5% vat!!

I think good quality steaks have had a good increase per kilo though.

Nope, I asked the wife to double check the receipt from the other week as I thought we'd under paid.

That said, we've only been out the once, is wasn't great (not bad, just didn't live up to the hype and expectations we'd built up), and we're in no hurry to go out eating again, at least until we can go to the bar ourselves

The last few times I've been out - nowhere special, just "casual dining" - I've noticed they're distinctly off their game. Much longer wait times etc. I suppose it's a combination of being under staffed and the staff they have got being out of practice.

Apparently there's a massive shortage of people now due to a combination of Brexit and people not wanting an 'on again off again' job in hospitality.

Similar really, been out for 4 meals since we can. One was good, the other three were average at best. And two of the three were bloody expensive as well.

Was at the local VFW last night & actually got to sit at the bar!! Salad, steak dinner, cupcake & a fairly generous pour of Myers for $22.
