Discovered why there are buckets of water all over... Thought they'd be out there with jackhammers/Kango's etc removing the old finish. Turns out they'd basting it off. There's some poor fucker under there & it sounds like a B1 taking off with the augmenters lit.

It's getting a pebble tech stuff instead of the usual plaster. I think it's something like the 3rd one from the top of the 2nd column, Edit: The gunite is intact, they're only removing the plaster so it's still waterproof during the process.

Ahh, got you.
I've never worked on a pool so have no idea how the varius layers go and swimming in the local 33 metre pool doesn't count.

There appears to be three layers. The gunite, then the white plaster, then the blue plaster. Apparently they can reuse the plaster they blasted off instead of throwing it in the landfill... altho I'm not sure about that, but they did pour it into the hopper on the back of the rig.

Had a close look at the white stuff they partially blasted off, it's all sparkly & looks to have a very high quartz content. Guy is out there now with a regular pressure washer.

Turns out the reason for the sparkly plaster is that it's marble dust, not quartz as I thought.

Tile guys showed up at 9.40, they'd already done one pool before they got here (started at 6am). We have an American today so communication isn't Basil/Manuel like yesterday.

I miss having a pool on days like this... grew up swimming in pools and the ocean.

I've almost finished getting my pool ready for summer, tried a few plumbing solutions to replace the proprietary rubbish it came with. Now the pool has been shocked and flocced ready for vac to drain this evening. After the plumbing mods the heating seems to work a bit better and it's now a toasty 28 degrees. Not that it matters much as by the time I finish getting it ready I'll want to go to bed.
I'm sure I'll appreciate it in a few days but right now I hate the sight of it.

Managed to get the pool light out of the wall last evening after drilling out the ONE screw. Couldn't separate the parts last night, but got at the clamps with the *correct* pliers this morning. The rubber seal is mullared (cheap part) & I need one screw (cheap). Got all the mineral deposits off the glass with scotchbrite & vinegar.
Plan now is to put one of these spiffy LED bulbs (about $90) in it, comes with a remote to change the colors etc:

Mine (aka the North Atlantic ocean) is reported as being around 13 C. I will wait until later in the summer.
