Been tipping down today, so a bit bored and had a tin of primer lurking about.

Well today we had our first 'oh ffs' moment.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the lack of serious butchery on the bike, but today it bit back with a vengeance!
Somebody had tightened up one of the rocker box Allen bolts in a hurry/or wrong Allen key and stripped out the head of the bolt.
Usually not an issue, but this one is tight against a bracing cross member, so no upper access.
Eventually decided the best approach would be drop front engine mounts and give myself a chance.

It's getting the torx bit back out again that's the main issue! I don't like abusing my tools, but when trying to put a hexagonal peg into a round hole!!!!!

I'd never thought of - or heard of - using a torx bit in a rounded-out allen bolt. Is it a 'thing' that normally works?

There was a damaged allen bolt on one of the old bikes and I had a hell of a job of a job shifting it. I managed to cut a slot across is using about half-inch of hacksaw blade held in a pair of pliers then wacked an impact driver into it. Fortunately that loosened it enough to turn it out with a standard crosshead screwdriver.

Yep, used a few times on a buggered Allen head, most of the time it works.

Useful to know. Thanks.

And I of course meant a 'flathead' screwdriver, not a crosshead.

Just waiting for the DUCATI stickers to arrive, then I can flat it back and apply some laquer!
It's not perfect, but as it was scrap beforehand, she'd better be bloody happy with it ;)

It looks perfectly well in fitting with an old monster. But this is more about getting it back out riding and you've gone above and beyond.

First thing the forum will do is send you some money to take the wife out for a meal as a thank you.

So pm me your PayPal address and I'll donate you sone forum funds as you've done an ace job here
