He's just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
They found my wife's tumour early and with chemo she got 14 months from diagnosis. We'd not long moved to Turkey when the problems started that ended up with the cancer. A friend (and neighbour), a retired GI consultant tells me that pancreatic numbers are pretty much stable at around 8000 a year in the UK but I seem to hear of more and more people getting it.

Sorry to hear about your friend gremlin. :(

I unsubscribed from a marketing email I didn't know I'd signed up for.

They emailed me to confirm that I won't be getting anymore emails from them !

That's sometimes a little hard to judge the correct action. By unsubscribing you are letting them know the email address is real and someone is reading them, if the company looks ropey and it's the first email I'll usually ignore it.

I love GSXRs but always hated the rear wheel fitting with a vengeance. Bastard things. And got worse over the years.

Just fitted the new tyre and wheel and took 5 mins first time with Penny helping. But spindle was very stiff and needed hammer help. Not happy so lots of lube and 2 more 5 minute adventures.
Nope. So whipped it out again. There was a tiny mark on the wheel adjuster spacer which was grabbing when in situ.
5 mins with fine Emery paper and spindle goes in freely.

That was a fun half hour :(

People. Family in particular this time!!

My sis is 50 this autumn and I have a friend here who is a really good DJ. I fancy asking him to make a playlist type thing for her birthday. But I don't know what music she likes/liked

So, I asked my brother, his wife and my SDad.

Well that's fuck all use at all

From -

over to you dad
she doesn't listen to anything I know these days

to

She never watches the main stage at Glastonbury

FFS fambily - you all listened to the same sort of stuff when we were kids (I was the odd one out that liked 50's rock n roll and 80's pop!!) so surely ONE of you can throw up some names of bands or songs that she used to listen to back then?? (All I remember is Pink Floyd and Queen!!!)

There was me thinking it was a simple question!!

I've got one last person I can ask - someone she used to go to raves with back when. Hopefully the friend will be more helpful/knowledgeable than family

I took a COVID-19 home test yesterday, posted it in the priority post box and checked the tracking status today:

Wednesday 02 June 2021
20:43
Delivered by
Chelmsford MC
20:41
Item Received
Chelmsford MC

It was supposed to go to a lab in Glasgow, 400 miles away from Chelmsford. How could it be delivered by Chelmsford Mailing Centre two minutes after they received it?

eBay and their buyers - since when did they turn in to total cnuts?

Sold an old Haynes manual for a fiver to some fella in Wales through eBay, never received any feedback but that's not unusual. Last week got a dispute raised by the fellas bank seeking a charge reversal as he claims never to have received it, so I sent through proof of posting and tracking thinking that would be the last of it.
Today got an email from eBay stating they have sided with buyer and claimed back costs etc, but what actually boiled my piss is that eBay now charge a £14 dispute fee - thieving gypsy bastards!

So for selling a £5 manual, I'm now £20 out of pocket despite providing tracking?????

So write back to them again and complain.....

Ebay have mad it clear that they usually side with a buyer...so it atracts all sorts of idiots.

Waking up to a cold sore the size of a dinner plate on my lip. Should have got the preemptive strike in with Zovirax when the lip felt a bit weird last night. With me it's always sunlight that triggers it, plus I've been working from 6am to 6pm lately, so a bit run down. Should have known one was coming.

For once, I'll be glad yo go out with a mask, save being chased down the road like the Elephant Man.

Maybe an internal mail stamp, moving from one tray/box/shelf to another. It shows up as a 'transaction' on the system so they know where it is.

Or aliens. Probably aliens.

The fact that I really struggle to use a saw   This is nothing to do with the spazzy arm (although I wouldn't be able to cut much in one go due to the lack of muscle)

But, I rarely manage more than a few 'saws' before it 'catches' - which isn't particularly comfortable!

Today, as its Sunday, and we aren't supposed to make 'work' noises in the building, I thought I'd have a go at cutting some bits ready to do the other side of the seating tomorrow

Was very proud that I managed to get a bit of a rhythm going and got quite excited! Then I looked at the cut - pretty sure it shouldn't be on an angle

Currently sitting here considering getting the jigsaw thing out to see how loud that is!! :angelic-green: The only person I know up here that I could ask is away for 10 days

Bloody DIY :angry-cussingblack:

(Also considering taking the lengths of wood to the DIY place tomorrow to see if they'll cut them - will take them moments on their machine and at least I'll know they are straight!! )

Try using a Japanese saw, they cut on the pull stroke.

I don't about availability in France, but Axminster and others do them in the UK https://www.axminstertools.com/hand-too ... anese-saws

I had the - with hindsight - luxury of doing Woodwork at school.

So, a few tips wot I remember:

Mark the line you want to cut
Also mark an edge / second surface

ie If a square piece of wood, from where you are stood, you should be able to see two [touching] lines on the top and side facing towards you.

Starting:

Have the saw on the 'waste' / offcut side of the line, not on it. The saw has width, plus the teeth are slightly wider.

Use your thumbnail as a guide to stop the saw slipping sideways.

By using both lines as guides, you should be able to cut straight and vertical.

If the offcut bends 'up', the saw will be clamped. Is that what you mean by 'catching'? You want the offcut unsupported - until the final cutting when if it falls it might split off rather than a clean edge.

Awesome. Maybe I'll have another go!!

Believe it or not, I did woodwork at school! Could make an awesome dovetail joint - I guess they taught us to use a saw but in all my adult life I've never succeeded :(

And yes, it feels clamped, but the off cut is never under any pressure to push 'up'. I think it's more to do with my inability to do the saw action properly!! Maybe I pushed too hard so the teeth bite? As I can't push down hard at the mo I guess that is helping the action?

But, this morning it wasn't too bad. It just wasn't straight!!

I've finished the 'calming' mug of tea so might have another go now!! :D :D

Thank you

Try to do 'long' cuts, so there's more saw length in contact. And try not to force it. If it catches, have a think about what's changed.

That's really interesting. Thank you. I will have a look in Weldom tomorrow. TBF, the sort of wood I'm using I could buy the stuff I need and get it cut for less than the saw I think. (I've got enough left over from previous stuff, but if I can't cut it I will probs have to buy some and get it cut!)

But if they sell them I'll have a good look as that might help me a lot!! :D :D

I think I've always pushed/pressed too hard. I'd given up trying for the last 3 years (bought the apartment intending to do the DIY, sawing was just one of the things I couldn't do left-handed/at all!! ) but some of the physio exercises mean that I should have enough oomph, just not sure how many cuts I can do!!

Will make a start now and put the advice into practice - back later :D :D (sooner if I fail again!!)
