Yes, I know. I was thinking of stuff like the Paris Dakar race.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 2:30 pmDon't buy a trip up Everest. You will be disappointed.

OK. I've thought about people dying by the side of the road from snakebite.Potter wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 3:27 am You're hugely blessed to have this, many countries do not have such a comprehensive system. In other countries thousands of people starve to death every day, or they die at the side of the road from snakebite, or an illness that could be easily treated if they had a government like you do.
Next time you're exercising your freedom to moan about the government you should think about that for a moment.
I'm not sure how it's supposed to help. I still think our government is shit.

People have died in the Dakar, dunno whatever's like now but 20 years ago it was dangerous, especially if you were one of the slower bikes, things you could die or get injured from, getting run over by the faster cars, getting lost, exhaustion, dehydration, mechanical breakdown, all of these happened in the period I was interested in it (1998 - 2004)Yorick wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 2:32 pmYes, I know. It's not like a circuit race with Marshall and medical help nearby, you can die waiting for someone to find you and help to get to you.
If you want to know what it's like have a chat with people who've competed in it.
Most long distance enduros are like this, I was lucky to be found relatively quickly when I broke my arm in Dalby Forest on an enduro, had to make my own way to medical attention, fortunately I wasn't too bad and could ride back to the pit area one handed.
