But surely they still need the food??, so I guess rather than buying from their own farmers, the Americans are going to buy from other nations, adding to the environmental problem by transporting goods 1000's of miles!!Potter wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 3:34 am If you look at the bigger picture, it's not just Biden wandering around doing silly things, that would be like accusing Boris of doing the same - it's a managed programme to try and reduce the impact of farming and try to return as much of the rivers back to how nature intended them.
I'm not saying I entirely agree with every part of it, but it's hardly insanity to make people be more careful and use less natural resources.

It has successfully propped up the French centre and right against the left and communists since it's inception over half a century ago.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 11:00 pmAh, the EU Common Agricultural Policy, whose success is only matched by their Common Fisheries Policy.

It's almost making a Uk free-trade deal with Australia, rather than with the neighbouring trade-bloc, look reasonable. ..Jody wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 7:20 amBut surely they still need the food??, so I guess rather than buying from their own farmers, the Americans are going to buy from other nations, adding to the environmental problem by transporting goods 1000's of miles!!Potter wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 3:34 am If you look at the bigger picture, it's not just Biden wandering around doing silly things, that would be like accusing Boris of doing the same - it's a managed programme to try and reduce the impact of farming and try to return as much of the rivers back to how nature intended them.

Well yeah, importing meet from anywhere when we are perfectly capable of 'growing' our own on our little island is pure insanity.slowsider wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 5:05 pmIt's almost making a Uk free-trade deal with Australia, rather than with the neighbouring trade-bloc, look reasonable. ..Jody wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 7:20 amBut surely they still need the food??, so I guess rather than buying from their own farmers, the Americans are going to buy from other nations, adding to the environmental problem by transporting goods 1000's of miles!!Potter wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 3:34 am If you look at the bigger picture, it's not just Biden wandering around doing silly things, that would be like accusing Boris of doing the same - it's a managed programme to try and reduce the impact of farming and try to return as much of the rivers back to how nature intended them.

The amount of food the US (and the UK, and Europe) wastes is staggering.Jody wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 7:20 amBut surely they still need the food??, so I guess rather than buying from their own farmers, the Americans are going to buy from other nations, adding to the environmental problem by transporting goods 1000's of miles!!Potter wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 3:34 am If you look at the bigger picture, it's not just Biden wandering around doing silly things, that would be like accusing Boris of doing the same - it's a managed programme to try and reduce the impact of farming and try to return as much of the rivers back to how nature intended them.

To this I think (?) can be added food wasted in the production and supply chain up to and including retail outlets which is 25-40% of all food production.

I think the average UK food cost per household is about £100 per weekIn the UK, 6.7 million tonnes of food is wasted per year which totals to costs of £10.2 billion each year. This represents costs of £250-£400 per household per year

While a third of food produced is wasted at the pre-consumer stage in the UK food manufacturing supply chain (FMSC)

Re: Insanity...
They aren't wasting it here, They made it impossible to grow. They're pissing 80% of the fresh water into the ocean instead of irrigating the farm land. So the farmers are now tearing out vast crops to enable them to have enough water for what little is left.Rockburner wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 8:48 am The amount of food the US (and the UK, and Europe) wastes is staggering.
Two years ago the reservoirs here held enough water to last for 5-6 years.
In related news, the latest Harrys Farm video has him talking about the results of having the soil checked for carbon. Turns out cow pastures sequester far more carbon into the soil than people realized.. so the way forward is eat more beef.

Re: Insanity...
The irony being that the USA wastes water and throws away food like no other nation on the planet. You won't have food shortages if you stop throwing away 25% of what you buy to eat - just consume it properly
