The Gremlinette found herself a job in a Turkish restaurant a few weeks back. Last night she did a 5 - 10pm shift, the first full night shift she's done, now that the restaurant is fully open.
She's proper enjoying it, mixing cocktails (not sure of the legality of that, but who cares!), interacting with customers and getting very generous tips!

I think I'm in the wrong job. Gremlinette was telling us that on her Friday shift two blokes were having the usual good natured argument over who would pay the 25 quid drinks bill. In the end one bloke got two twenty pounds notes out and said to my kid, 'if I give you give you this tip will you take my card to pay the bill?'. She took the tip!
She also got a tenner tip from a family who came back last night and gave her another tenner tip.
On top of this, there was a table who were reviewing the place for a local paper. The asked her name as they said she had made the evening as she was so cheerful and helpful.

Move over Fred Sirieix, there's a new front-of-house guru in town.

Good front of house staff aren't that common. Most are doing the job because they have to/can't get anything else/can't be arsed to get anything else. Which doesn't make them good for the business or the customers. I employed (temporarily) a few of those types (or had them employed for me and I had to deal with them ) when I ran pubs and damn it made life difficult for me, the other staff and the customers

If your daughter is enjoying her job, then that will show through to the customers and that makes the evening so much better. She obviously likes talking to people/helping (in getting the right order of foods and drinks, probably knows the menu already so can offer advice, likes a bit of banter) and that makes for a better evening out too

I'm well chuffed for her - to find a job you enjoy and get decent tips from it is fab. Justifiably you should be a proud Dad!

My Wife's friend got a job as a waitress at the local Harvester. She used to get much more in tips than she did in wages! The key to her tip fortune was to always compliment the kids on being handsome/pretty/cute/smartly dressed etc.

My wife and I took daughters dog for a walk up the river today.
The river doesn't look much and theres a bit of litter about (some of thats getting cleared up soon as Granddaughter has one of those litter grab things and wants to do a cleanup, her idea not mine) but theres a bit of wildlife about.
Todays treat was a Heron standing a few yards away looking like it should be on a Japanese print.
Didn't see the Dipper thats usually in the river and so far only my wife has seen a Kingfisher.
Still, the Heron was a nice sight.

On Sunday a friend's daughter went missing (in the Midlands, UK). She's a 38 year old but has learning difficulties and is considered vulnerable. Her dad had dropped her off at the field where her horse is and she been seen riding but never turned up at the stables that she was going to. Her hoody, phone and bag were found in the field with her horse. I'm sure that I, like many, expected the worst. Being 200 miles away and not being able to help doesn't help

Anyway, she's just been found, safe and well. This is clearly not insignificant but it has certainly made me happy.

They have a place here in the village and the lass is well known and a lovely girl, wandering off is out of character. Her parents are already under a bit of pressure and didn't need this. Her dad has been fighting melanoma for about 3 years now - I don't use the term 'fighting' lightly - he's been on various trials and literally tries anything that might beat the cancer. It probably should have got him 18 months ago but I sometimes get the impression he'll die of old age about 40 years from now. Their other daughter had a brain tumour a couple of years ago but was operated on and is fine. The mother is a force of nature - also fighting tooth and nail for her husband but I think this will have hit her hard.

Sorry about the long post but if I'd just said a lass went missing but has now turned up it wouldn't have meant much. It is certainly good news.

My son was about 2 when he wandered off. We lived in a block of flats next to the Heer Strasse in Berlin. It was one of the three roads out of Berlin to West Germany and 4 lanes of traffic. The Staaken checkpoint was maybe half a kilometer away. I was on the balcony and I could hear my lad and I could hear his mum who was chatting with a friend one or two floors below us. I though he was with his mum and she thought he was with me - she could hear him chatting away.

He was missing for about 10 minutes and I eventually found him. He was on the far side of the Heer Strasse holding hands with a German woman who understandably was looking for me. It was a horrible, horrible 10 minutes. I'm out looking but have I gone the wrong way, has he been abducted . . . whatever. It was awful. You hold them just a little bit tighter when you find them.

Fast forward a couple of years and a squaddy's son went missing in Munsterlager where I'd been posted to. The alarm was raised about 4 pm and the garrison was mobilised. There were about a thousand British troops in Munsterlager and 11,000 German soldiers. Search teams were organised and we went out looking. The feeling was again, awful but the way everybody reacted was mind blowing. Searching finished for the night around 10 pm and was due to start again in the morning. We were getting organised when word came that he'd been found. A German squaddy on his way into work had almost tripped over the lad in woodland, an area that had yet to be searched. We all stood down, very relieved.

What I'm trying to say is that it's not a gender issue. A missing child brings out the best in people I think.

Just been down for a new rear Dunlop Sportsmart TT. Didn't even ask the price. Only €149 ride in ride out. Coolio
I rarely ask prices as they are very fair.

One lad there speaks a bit of English and is very helpful.
The other speaks no English, but been on a few rides with him and his pals. Once he was behind me for a while on his R1 and when we stopped, he giggled and pointed at my GSXR and said "es muy rapido"

Been very helpful in shop since, tolerating my Spanish

I just found out I can get a veterans railcard that will save me a tenner a day going to work. I've asked the Andrew to send me proof of service so I can get one.
What's just as pleasing is that it only came out last year so I haven't lost thousands because nobody told me.

I arrived in Biarritz just over 3 weeks ago, I knew I needed to loose some weight.... well bulk really I've no idea what I weigh, but I do have a wobbly belly and 'love handles' (#fatchance!!) and I want them gone.

Being as there's a pool here, it would be foolish not to take advantage

First time in the pool 2 weeks ago, 12 lengths was all I could manage

I've just done 50

Added onto the press-up routine I've been on since last August (100 every day), some planking, and yoga that I've introduced to my routine in the last couple weeks, I'm feeling confident that I will reach my goal soon enough well if I can stick to one cheat day for waffles or Pain O chocs and one cheat day for alcohol per week I'll be OK !

Now upto 60 lengths !
