Certainly easier to replace, but you will be getting a 20yo tank as a replacement.
There are no leaks, just a skanky interior, So a bit of mechanical magic and hopefully we'll have a functional tank.
I did say to you that this is the worst bit of the whole job!!!!!

Although Ducati couldn't be arsed to galvanize/rust proof the interior of the tank, they did however fit (in retrospect a bloody good idea) a 13mm drain plug!
Rinse, drain, repeat!

Sadly, for now, it has to be original. Once it's registered then I can do whatever I like to it - there are currently no MOT equivalents here for bikes so it's up to the owner to keep it roadworthy but it does mean you can change stuff once you have it legal to start!

So a tank is a possible for next year, maybe. But if Damannu can rescue this one I'm kinda keen to keep it original if I can  For a while! :D :D

I do like the one in your link though :)

Nope.
Deox-c specialised rust remover (concentrated citric acid powder) which I used at an 8% solution for 34hrs.

Thats the stuff.

Sorted my tank a treat. Since then it's done old tools, exhaust flanges, loads of stuff. Love it, something that actually does what its supposed to.

Blokes description of problem......it won't start!
Turns out the splines on everything in the variator had gone AWOL..
Then, for some inexplicable reason, the immobilizer had cut in as well, just to make it interesting!.
Still, he's happy now it's going nicely now.
He has a 996 and 636 track bikes..........might be on a nice little earner here!!!!!!
