Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I've arrived in Biarritz !
No great drama getting here, immigration were fine as I made sure I had all my paperwork and my test results
Start work tomorrow, I'll be speaking with my ITM (International Team Manager) tomorrow to find out if I actually have any bookings !

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
A friend needed a 17mm socket so I took one down to their place. Saw him as I got out of the car and so he checked the socket - perfect for what he needed it for - wrong fitting for his torque wrench. He got in the car and off we went back to the garage my tool box is in. Rummage through (light is really bad so tough to find the right socket!) and found the one with the bigger fitting
Back to chalet so he could change the wheels on their mini
No idea why it made me so happy, but was really chuffed that I could help!!

Bennetts Insurance.
Had auto renew notice come through, looked suspiciously cheap, so get myself in the mood for a war of words and give them a call thinking they've magically disappeared my mods.
Have you got my sat nav listed? Yes, but we don't count them as mods
Have you got my luggage listed? No, but as you're telling me it's less than £400 it's included anyway
Indicators? Yes and as they're E marked they make no difference to us
Exhaust? Yes it's been included.
Well spank my arse, lovely wee female with some nice chat too took her up on their offer of £200 fully comp, protected no claims etc etc etc.

Just booked 11 days in Burgundy for August.
Hopefully it'll go ahead.
Even more hopefully we'll have 2 days in Morzine as well in there.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
This just made me giggle.
Watching footy at the bar with my Man Utd fan pals.
The VAR ref just gave a handball against Pogba and a penalty for Roma.
We all booed etc...
Then a couple of the lads let fly that the VAR ref is from here in Lanzarote. They started sending him jokey text messages.
He's very well known in footy circles here and refs voluntarily in many local and kids matches.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I just received an email from Tesco with my name in the title of the email. the text of the email started "Hello Simon..." (my name is not Simon).
I sent them a message "Hello Sainsbury's, Who the Hell is Simon?"
Well, it amused me.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
One of my best pals still makes me giggle. We started racing together in 1982 and he's still at it. Got a 2nd at Donington today on his Bandit.
He turned 60 this year
And he just sent me a pic of his new race bike.
It's only got 199.8 BHP

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Not that it makes me happy exactly - it makes me laugh a lot, which does make me happy!!
French lesson. I'm very very lucky to have found a teacher I can laugh with!!
Todays laughs -
Do not mistake la Pulpe with le poulpe!
La pulpe is the lumpy bits in fruits juice!!
Le pouple is a sea creature with sucky things on the tentacles!! (also known as both la pieuvre and something you really should NOT chop up and put on seafood pizza!!)
The other is la moule or le moule!
The first is normally read as les moule and served with frites! The second is what you bake stuffs in!!
Weirdly she was surprised that I'd only been served octopus once (chopped up on a pizza, I didn't actually eat it!!) but I explained that, living in the west country in the uk wasn't conducive to the opportunity to try sucky tentacles
Ok - probably had to be there for those to be as funny as we found them but my misunderstanding/confusing of some words is really funny during a class!!
I do need to get to Barcelona one day so I can go have drinks with this teacher!!!

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I arrived in Biarritz just over 3 weeks ago, I knew I needed to loose some weight.... well bulk really I've no idea what I weigh, but I do have a wobbly belly and 'love handles' (#fatchance!!) and I want them gone.
Being as there's a pool here, it would be foolish not to take advantage
First time in the pool 2 weeks ago, 12 lengths was all I could manage
I've just done 50
Added onto the press-up routine I've been on since last August (100 every day), some planking, and yoga that I've introduced to my routine in the last couple weeks, I'm feeling confident that I will reach my goal soon enough well if I can stick to one cheat day for waffles or Pain O chocs and one cheat day for alcohol per week I'll be OK !

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
This morning I got a very moving message from my cousin in Toronto
18 months ago she lost her 15 year old son to suicide.
2 months later she was in a real mess so we flew her over here for a month. We didn't know what to do, so just acted normally with lots of distractions.
She finally opened up today and said what we did and the memories thereof kept her going through the black times. She added that "she might have been dead otherwise "
Wow, I'm so pleased and proud.
So kiddies, don't be scared to help folk. It might not seem much to you, but can be massive for the other person.

Successfully rewiring a three phase motor to run off single phase and a capacitor. It's not as smooth as true 3ph but it's sufficient for a bench drill or similar.
Now I've just to tuck all the wiring in neatly.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
A disaster avoided !
I got a text at 7:30 this morning " Problem with the water heater, urgent "
I was already up so I went straight round to see what the problem was, normally its just the pilot light that's gone out... not this time.
The (gas) boiler had caught fire! Fortunately the son of the family had spotted it very quickly, screamed for his father who turned the gas off. No-one hurt, minimal damage. This actually happened last night but the family didn't want to disturb me late at night. Very lucky as I'd met up with a load of the other staff for a meal and was fairly drunk !
I've upgraded the guests into a bigger mobile with many apologies and thanks and they are being super cool about it all.
The next worry for me is that that boiler was checked last Wednesday by our own team.... they also checked 20 other mobiles on the site too... most of which are empty so the boilers haven't been used since the check was carried out !!
