Nordboy wrote: Fri May 14, 2021 5:51 pm By the way, under those rare circumstances, I could legally ask who you were, and if you refused to tell me I could then arrest you anyway, so actually, any ID card could very quickly make YOUR life easier, rather than mine. Just saying. :D
And you would have to tell me that I don't have to say anything... etc so I still wouldn't tell you. Just not saying. :D
Just to be clear about this. You'd rather be hauled off to the local nick under arrest and have your freedom to go to the shops/pub/whatever disrupted for a few hours than produce an ID card on a point of principle?

That's a bit fucking stupid when you think about it.
It is a bit fucking stupid. Shades of pointless Luddite protest - the world has changed and a lot of old people, and by old I mean old in their heads, are unable or unwilling to recognise this fact. Cue the pointless protests. It's a digital world, get used to it.

I don't carry an id card.
By that I guess you do not have a driving licence, do not have a Smartphone, and of course do not use the NHS App, nor use the Internet ?

Do we need to wear the Id card on our hat?

I don't routinely carry my driving licence. Why should I? I don't drive*.
I have a smart phone, it doesn't have the NHS app on it
The internet? No, never heard of it.

I think the gammos, racists and simpletons see themselves as being forced to continually double down on their terrible decision in 2016 because they don't want to admit they have been proven to have been so horrendously wrong.

How long can it last? Until Andy Burnham o'clock I guess.

You couldn't make this shit up.

If you drive you are not obliged to habitually carry a driving licence on your person, but if legally obliged to produce it you must do so.

Neither would you be obliged to habitually carry voting ID on your person, but if legally obliged to produce it when voting you would have to do so.

Exactly. I have no issue at all with that.

My issue is with Nordboy who, as I may have mentioned once or twice, has trouble ditinguishing between a person minding his own business walking down the street and some officious busybody demanding "Papiere, bitte".

No, but the id photo needs to show you wearing it.

That’s a shame, as all I do is walk down the street and randomly ask people going about their business who they are and to prove it? Rather than only doing that under very rare circumstances.

Wrote out a long reply, but really can’t be arsed. You’ve inferred far too much from my replys. Enjoy minding you own business, and I’ll continue to be my ‘offcious busybody’ or maybe as you’ve said a Nazi?

Your issue is with proposed ID cards, don't make it personal.

I don't know Nordboy personally but he's one of the most chilled Policemen I've come across on a forum.
I agree. But it was Nordboy who thought there was some sort of doublethink about NO2ID protesters asking to see his warrant card, apparently not seeing the difference between somebody minding their own business and somebody claiming to be a police officer.

Saga Lout seems to be trying to conflate having voting ID cards with carrying personal ID cards (presentable upon demand to police, for example).

So, it would seem that my original post about irony has ironically got somewhat lost in translation. I actually don’t think we’re that far apart it would seem.

I'd argue if you reread this thread from the start, many of those pro-ID were making it quite personal from the start. I stepped back as it was quite a hostile discussion and clearly people have their views and weren't going to change them (that applies to both sides of the debate), but have carried on reading.

So it seems.

Irie seems to have completely misunderstood what I've written. It was Nordboy conflating carrying ID cards (presentable upon demand to police, for example) with police officers carrying warrant cards (presentable to the public to prove that they are who they say they are when they're acting as police officers).
