Youngster MX tryout/ trail bike tryout ?

Post by weeksy »

Been looking at this for the boy, this is the only one that seems to be sensible money along with a realistic drive.

https://www.washbrookfarmmx.co.uk/tryoutnew.php

But more than up for hearing other ideas ?

He's been told he's not getting one, in simple terms there's no budget for one for him, nor really space or budget for upkeep either, but i'm certainly not against throwing a few quid in there for him to at least try things.

Ideas ?

I used these boys for my two youngest, was a good few years ago now but they both loved it , decent bikes and kit, and he really brought them on- well worth the money for me.

Was held up at the Wild Tracks place near Newmarket, which in itself is a great facility, we ended up getting Toby his own bike ( CR85 ) and although it was a bit of a trek for us, went back there once or twice with it too.

I'm not you :) (not a dig btw) It's not open to discussion or debate and he's well aware of it. There's a lack of location, lack of money for upkeep etc... Simple economics mean it's not happening. He can't ride one on the roads, so nowhere to ride it. Sure we've got an MX track nearby Ashdown Woods, but it's not often they run there and would get very samey.

If i were into MX/Dirt it may be a different discussion, but I'm not and don't plan on it...so the discussion doesn't exist.

In 18 months all the road bikes will be gone, replaced by Father and Son matching CRF's :)

Until he tries it for the first time and falls in love with the smell of two stroke and the ability to twist your right wrist and go faster. You know how addictive bikes are, if you're dead set against him having one then maybe don't take him for the try-out day.

I'm not dead set against him having a bike... i'm dead set against me paying for it :)

You've seen the stuff he does on MTBs, but there's a massive difference that all his mates do MTB, all his fun is out doing that... we're not jumping into a more solitary sport/environment on a whim...

Wildtracks - right beside the A11, so probably easier for you to get to than March

Isn't making financial sacrifices for your children part of parenting ;) :D

Being serious for a moment, does it have to be mx ... how about trials ?

It is... but there's also taking the piss too. He's got a bicycle that sponsored riders don't get !

I think he'd prefer MX/trails over trials.... there's also Minimoto which is fairly local in Swindon. But essentially he just wants to rag the shit out of a bike around a field mostly :D

Maybe easier to get Crust to meet us at Ashdowne Woods and put him on the 350EXC-F :D

If you can find a suitable bike to use and want to get up to Ashdown on a Saturday when it’s much, much quieter I can send you over Jamie or Bryns numbers (owners) if it helps ?
Only issue is the track probably won’t have been graded from the previous Sunday.

Take him drag racing at Santa Pod, you can do that from 14, have a look at the Straightliners regs but I think it has to be a 4 stroke 125.

It's 2 miles across the fields, on a certain Sat if the wind is blowing you can hear them. We've been up there a few times to watch as it's a nice cycle out.

When you're over here next, he can try Pen's little 125 up in the sand dunes.

My local MX track hasn't been used for a year and is getting over grown, it's also about 2 miles from our house and I sometimes cycle past it
