What was included in that price? To me a service is valves, oil and filters, chain tension, carb balancing if applicable, and the like.

I wouldn't include tyres, brake pads nor C&S in the price, they're consumables.

Semantics probably, but there we go.

I've just checked and it was a bargain at only £680 for just the service. I asked them not to do the brakes as the Triumph ones come in at £110 for a front set (so I put in EBC).

I put the CBR in for its first MOT under my ownership .Its had an MOT every year since 1995.
Final cost was £350 quid as it also needed back tyre and head races.
Labour was quite expensive as the chain adjusters were seized.
My local garage is always makes you pay for something (he is of course there to make a living) but sometimes will do things for sod all.
I,m under no illusions as to my mechanical ineptitude

This is why I hate main dealer services....they charge £££ for doing basically fuck all. My car was the same. "Check for leaks" indeed....I'll eat my hat if they've done more than glance at it to see if it's dripping. It's the same with all the other checks, if you've got an ounce of mechanical sense you can see all of that in 5 mins!

But they've got you over a barrel for warranty....

I pay about £300 for an oil and filters (fuel, air, oil and pollen) change in my car at an independent specialist. About £100 of that is the fancy oil which last 20k miles. I pay mostly cause I CBA crawling under the car.

With bikes I only pay for shitty jobs I CBA with. Head bearings on a VFR for £75 plus parts was the last one I think.

My Mum (born and bred Londoner) refused to tip. She said that "service included" is stated on the menus and it used to be but I've not checked recently. At a diner in New York a waitress gave me a dirty look when I tipped and said "That's not enough!" so I said "Well how much do you want?" and she explained that 15% is normal.

Back to dealers and servicing.........

I ask for a free servicing deal when buying a new bike. One dealer gave me two years, not anticipating that I would get The Big One in there (24k) so the next time they only offered a one year free servicing deal :(

I've had two new clutches on this bike under warranty, the first was a recall and the second was because the recall one was shite. A friend of a friend raced 765RS' and gave up with them because of the clutches so I've got my concerns.

€284 :)
For the parts and labour you've listed thats pretty good TBF.

The profit on tyres is woeful - you make more out of fitting them.
Plugs ans parts are expensive to buy in too.

I won't buy in OE parts, since getting in a single rear wheel bearing for a Fazer 600, and paying £52 for it trade..
Customer thought I was ripping him off so I gave him the invoice to go look at.

(special size bearing - bearing the other side came off BML)

Plumbers charge £50 an hour, and I'd rather get a water leak than have a brake pad fall out..

Be glad it's not a Bugatti - you have to buy a new set of wheels (£22k) on every third tyre change.
