I really was only looking for advice on sourcing parts (and hoping someone might have some old Monster bits in a shed!) and, since I started a thread on the other place when I hoped to do it myself, I figured I should put up any progress made on here too. This was sent to me a couple of days ago. Sounds like a Ducati - I was called a Twonk cos I don't understand the readings, but apparently it's pretty much ok!



Fork seals should arrive on site monday ish and the other bits ordered so far soon after

Sadly Demon Tweeks cancelled the order for the tank sealant so trying to source some in France (or something similar!)

Looking at that, at the first 10s it's a bit weird how it goes up and down a fair bit... but don't know how normal that is.

The big question is, did it boil a cell in the battery or did the battery just fail ? Nothing in those numbers are clear indication it would boil a cell... so the battery may have just been really old and died...

However, i can't see a reg/rec being crazy money and as there's now some funding in place, maybe have one as a spare.

Tank side of things, i can completely understand why you'd get that, the ethanol issue/discussion is quite prevalent, especially on the continent as they seem to use higher ethanol more often that the UK

It is 583cc. It was registered first in 23-04-1998

The V5 just says Ducati and 583 - doesn't say Monster anywhere on the paperwork


It was red (on the paperwork!) and I have a frame and engine number if that's any good for checking stuff?

I don't understand the electric bit. And haven't quizzed about the battery. It is/was a spare that was used as there wasn't one on the bike


Eventually the goal is to get a better tank. But I need the bike to be standard to pass the DREAL (equivalent of VOSA) inspection to reregister. Also, tanks are silly money! But the goal over the winter is to look for a proper tank. For now, I'm looking to try and get the sealant requested to get it registered

Is the tank actually leaking? If it is, is is leaking at the back - where the tank hinge joins the tank?

It's rusty and nasty inside. Probably the best option is sealant?

I've been told I can only get a partial CoC because of the age. So then I have to take the partial and the bike to DREAL and get it inspected there too The inspection from a local garage is a dealer

I will email Ducati France and check, but for either I would need it to be fully standard

Oh that sucks, I've heard nightmare stuff about DREAL.
I gave up importing my bike (hence the rat ntv) and am waiting for it to hit 30, then I might try to get a 'classic' reg.

If you can get this in France, mix it with hot water, fill tank, swill around occasionally and a few hours later all the rust is gone. Worked brilliantly on my monster tank.

In general, if it's standard, it should be ok. Just annoying about DREAL as I'd thought I could just get a CoC - like the transit, it's too old to get a full one

Hello peeps, Noggin's spanner wanka here.
Weeksy, the voltage was all over the place in the video because the earth lead kept moving!
The reason the voltage was so high in the first place was that big red was lying to me, so it's time for silicon heaven for that bad boy.

Actually I think it's this year! I only had to wait 12 years. Patience! I did briefly consider swapping it to a slightly older frame, see if that would speed it up
