Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
Well fuck. Here ya go:
A private school founded by an anti-vaccination activist in South Florida has warned teachers and staff against taking the COVID-19 vaccine, saying it will not employ anyone who has received the shot.
The Centner Academy in Miami sent a notice to parents on Monday informing them of a new policy for its two campuses for about 300 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Teachers or staff who have already taken the vaccine were told to continue reporting to school but to stay separated from students.
Co-founder Leila Centner told employees in a letter last week that she made the policy decision with a “very heavy heart.” Centner asked those who have not received a COVID-19 vaccine to wait until the end of the school year, and even then recommended holding off.
Centner stood by the decision Tuesday in a statement sent to The Associated Press, which featured the biologically impossible claim that unvaccinated women have experienced miscarriages and other reproductive problems just by standing in proximity to vaccinated people.
“You can’t pass it from one person to another if you stand next to someone,” said Dr. Taraneh Shirazian, an NYU Langone gynecologist. “That’s a very horrible misconception because it opens up this crazy thinking that you can stand next to people and get what they have, which we know historically has in public health really created a lot of damage.”
The Florida Department of Education did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the school’s stance on the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and leading women’s health authorities have declared the COVID-19 vaccines being used in the U.S. to be safe and effective, and they are undergoing unprecedented scrutiny for safety. Around the country, teachers were prioritized for early access to the vaccines to protect them from exposure to the coronavirus as schools reopened.
Dr. Aileen Marty, an infectious disease specialist with Florida International University’s Wertheim College of Medicine, said there is no evidence that unvaccinated people face any risks from the vaccinations of others.
Centner and her husband David Centner started the school in 2019 after moving to Miami from New York. The school’s website promotes “medical freedom” from vaccines and offers to help parents opt out of vaccines that are otherwise required for students in Florida.
Earlier this month, Centner criticized measures by the CDC to curb the spread of the virus, and said her school went against the guidelines from the moment it reopened in September.
“We did not follow any of the tyrannic measures that were in place. I did not force our kids to wear a mask,” Centner said while attending a “Health and Freedom” rally for a Republican candidate that featured supporters of former President Donald Trump and critics of public health restrictions in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
It's now come out that the teachers unions were *guiding* the WH on when teachers should be back in school doing their fucking jobs, bugger all to do with "follow the science". This came about after the head of the CDC said teachers could go back to work without being vaccinated (in her official capacity as head of the CDC) & the very next day the WH spokesmoron got in front of the WH press corps & said that was merely her own opinion... which was an outright fucking lie.
The teachers unions are quite happy for the teachers to do fuck all while collecting full pay & still pay their union dues...

No surprise, the teachers unions have been saying pretty much the same here all the way through.ZRX61 wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 10:15 pm It's now come out that the teachers unions were *guiding* the WH on when teachers should be back in school doing their fucking jobs, bugger all to do with "follow the science". There's gonna a few lawsuits here after some schools made kids wear masks while running laps on the track for training & in actual races. Video a couple of days ago of some gal collapsing at the finish line, medics show up, Ox levels dangerously low.Mussels wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 7:09 pm I didn't know this was in the works, I wonder who was pulling her strings.

In other news: We've now had a few days of news reporters standing outside with no one other than the two sound & camera guys, wearing masks, telling us there's no need to wear a mask outside.

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
I have to wonder about this as I can't see any way that the paper masks people wear could cause low oxygen levels. 18 months ago I was trekking in Nepal, spending 10 or 11 days at over 4000 metres altitude and 4 days at over 5000 m (16000 feet) altitude. Most days I would have a scarf over my mouth and nose because breathing in powdered yak shit isn't good for you (at lower altitudes you're breathing in powdered donkey shit). Despite the low oxygen levels in the air and some serious effort on the hills, I didn't come close to collapse - and I was 68 years of age at the time.
In 1986, whilst on a course in the army I had to wear an S6 respirator for a whole PT session. Nobody died, nobody collapsed. There was a lot of bitching but it was a PT session after all. I and most soldiers have also worn an S6 respirator for days on end and nobody died, nobody collapsed from the reduced air flow. In the last few years I've had a couple of full stress tests walking on an increasing gradient treadmill connected to an ECG and wearing a mask to measure VO2 max numbers. It didn't kill me.
To suggest that a paper mask that isn't a tight fit over the face could cause low oxygen levels and collapse is bullshit in my book.

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
Only if you have a condition where you would normally struggle to breathe.
I wore a papery mask recently, outside on a hot day, and yes it was annoying, no more than that. People who complain about it because of some made-up condition aren't really helping. But it's useful to be able to identify the idiots.
As a youth I worked on farms and would spend weeks on end 8 hours a day with a scarf tied round my face (or a full ventilator mask, depending on the H&S of the day) working with old fashioned combines. It was annoying but it was better than having a lung full of chaff.

I'm not sure it's bullshit, there was a concern back when full face helmets became the norm that if worn with a tight fitting scarf the wearer could be at risk of CO2 build up and the problems it causes.
Luckily MAG highlighted the problem of part of their compulsory helmet legislation repeal campaign.

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
It's a good point though. I've ridden hundreds of miles (in one go), and 10s of thousands of miles overall, in a lid and tight fitting scarf over my nose and mouth. So somewhat -more- restrictive than the 10p flappy-about disposable masks that everyone wears these days - most of us for the 25 minutes that we're in a shop. I guess I've just been lucky over 3 decades.

IIRC the theory was that, if wearing a FF helmet, a rider's oxygen levels could fall low enough to cause the rider to lose control.

I wouldn't know, she wasn't wearing a paper mask. The only place people are wearing paper masks is at some medical facilities. One I visit insist you wear the paper ones they hand out, but everywhere else you can wear "fashion masks"... as it says on the label....Yambo wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 9:43 am I have to wonder about this as I can't see any way that the paper masks people wear could cause low oxygen levels. 18 months ago I was trekking in Nepal, spending 10 or 11 days at over 4000 metres altitude and 4 days at over 5000 m (16000 feet) altitude. So - the paper masks "don't work" (disputable I'd say but, hey ...) - so you'd prefer to wear nothing?
But if you did wear something (presumably better) you might suffocate?

Mrs W has spent the last year working in an N95 and a full plastic suit thing and although it's caused spots and a sore face she managed not to collapse.cheb wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 11:56 am I'm not sure it's bullshit, there was a concern back when full face helmets became the norm that if worn with a tight fitting scarf the wearer could be at risk of CO2 build up and the problems it causes.

Incidentally, they have gone back to normal blue paper masks as from a week ago.

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
I've been vaccinated, I don't have to wear one for any medical reason... & actually have three medical exemptions from wearing one & can tell people who talk to me to take theirs off. There's so many exemptions it's a wonder anyone is wearing one.
Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
The paper masks are not intended to protect the wearer from infection, but to protect other people from any infection the wearer may have. That's why operating theatre staff wear them, to protect the patient from infection

CDC say:
Until more is known, fully vaccinated people should continue to wear masks and stay 6 feet apart from other people in other settings, like when they are in public or visiting with unvaccinated people from multiple households.

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
Sounds like excuses. Until there is a reasonable herd immunity and the r drops, then masks will serve a useful purpose. Yeah I'd prefer it to be dropped today and not in 6 months or even two years but I'm surprised folk who have to wear it for 20 minutes at a time make such a massive fuss about it.
I've had both my jabs now as well, maybe if I can start to flash my vaccine passport about I'll change my mind and join the non-masked elite.

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
What does "reasonable herd immunity" look like? We've already vaccinated 34,934,171, (one dose) that's over half of the population, and 16,291,719, about a quarter of the population, have had two doses. Most places in the UK have fewer than 24 in 100,000 "cases", i.e. 0.024% (look at the colour of the map). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

Re: Covid conspiracies / rants/ BS
Doesn't that all become irrelevant if a variant occurs which sneers at the vaccine?
