Is it just my imagination or is spring really dragging in getting here ?

Post by weeksy »

Still just about hitting 11-12 deg most day but with a cold cold wind.

Considering last year we'd had mid 20s by now, we're not really getting much in the way of warm this year are we !

I want a day where i get off the bike and don't need to grab a cup of coffee to warm me up straight away !

It's shite, my bike hasn't even seen the light of day since October. That probably says more about how nesh I am than anything else to be honest. I hate the cold.

Yep - it's still chilly in the mornings.

I'm just hoping the weekend is nice and the Rockster fires up after 4 months of hibernation! Fingers crossed!!

I've been out a fair bit... but today for example, i'm sitting here, it's lovely and dry, but i just can't be arsed getting frozen, even with heated gloves etc it won't exactly be a pleasure... so i'm not bothering !

I think spring has given up here! At the weekend there was 2 inches of snow in my bit of resort whilst I was away (so they can't blame me!)

Today -

Most years we do get the odd snow shower through spring (even in the summer!) but not this consistent grey, cold, wet, snowy weather

Luckily, last year, for the first lockdown, we had sunshine pretty much constantly for March - June (I wasn't here after June, but it was apparently a hot summer!). The odd wet day and the odd snow shower, but nothing like this year

I've got friends that are still hiking up mountains to ski/board down because there's been so much fresh snow :o :o :o

Still got the heating on. Still wearing full winter gear to commute in. Still not having BBQs on a regular basis. Feels more like Autumn!

I've been wanting to plant out my tomato plants for weeks now but it's been too cold.

Tonight is the last night with a frost risk so I'll get them out at the weekend.

It's been cooler than normal here. Low 20s all week. Had a fleece on mornings and evenings.

Every bike trip means full Winter clobber, heated bodywarmer and grips mostly on 75% to full. This week has been much colder, day time temps are typically 8 degrees, dropping to 2 and frosty overnight. The last run I had I kept the speeds under 60mph,or it just became unpleasantly cold.

All that was ok,because at least it was dry,but now it's wintery showers of icy rain, wind and hail which has stopped any bike action.

April was the most frosty month for 40 years and it doesn't look to be changing much for May.

went out on the speed triple today - bugger me, sunny but impressively cold. After 1.5 hrs it was home time.
Last nights 30k Downs ride finished with a quick beer in a pub (or rather outside it) - it was like March!

I think technically it's climate change, which isn't necessarily the same

Yes, you can claim "Climate Change" and get funding for your research and it doesn't matter if the temperature goes down, so long as it changes you're fine - I'm feeling a bit cynical today.

My parents got married in May 1965 and there was snow on the ground (I've been reminded of that a lot). Spring is taking it's time this year though. I stopped at Devils Dyke on the way home as it all went a bit dark.

Dunno, the mornings are chilly when the sky has been clear during the night but most days are either t shirt or maybe a light fleece weather.
There was snow on the fells round Keswick today but its been bright and warm enough.
Oh and the Ramsons garlic is up by the river, the bluebells are in bloom.

I reckon its about on course.
This time of year is the best part as far as I'm concerned, its warm enough to be out and about but not oppressively so. Things are growing like mad and everywhere is kicking into that lush green.

A few more degrees and it's warm enough to swim in the river or maybe Ullswater and I know my granddaughter is looking forward to swimming in the river.

TBH I think it was last year that was messed up, far too warm and dry throughout spring.

That warm weather had a direct knock on effect on nature and it was really noticeable in the honey crop I had in the summer. Because it was so dry throughout spring many of the trees (particularly Lime for me) didn't have the moisture in the ground for them to give up the nectar. Last year was the first time since moving here that I didn't take any honey in summer and I had to feed the bees going into winter to avoid them starving.

so as far as I'm concerned the rain that we have been having this last week is awesome
