Talk to me of tyres...

Just realised that the tyre on the Multistretta are at least 6 years old and have been unused for the last 4 years and are second hand BT023's which I put on in preparation for a continental touring jaunt which never happened.

I'm out of touch with tyres these days so am looking for recommendations for a fast road tyre that can cope with wet riding - so no Supercorsa's (are they still a thing?) that's a barely cut slick - if needed.

No plans for any track use.

I've just put on Michelin Power 5s on mine and can attest to plenty enough grip for me and very sure footed in damp/wet conditions.

I've no idea yet how long they last,but I don't care overly much about that aspect,it's just for my entertainment.

Even the cheap Maxxis that came on the Bus feel great in the wet and dry.

The stock Dunlop 207s which come on a lot of new Kawasakis come very close to being shite,especially on anything other than a warm/dry road.

OEM tyres are never the same as the ones publicly available, dunno why.

When I bought my Blade it had D204's on it and they were terrible, but that was 20 odd years ago.

Maybe it's just Dunlops that are shit.

I think they must get a deal on stock tyres for new bikes,some folk replace them right away. Reminds me how we used to junk 70s plastic Yokohamas and Bridgestones!

Michelin road 5’s good all round tyre with sensible mileage ive just changed to Bridgestone s22’s seem to inspire more confidence and steer better.
This on my 790 duke so may have no bearing to your multi.

Michelin Road 5 GT’s for me.

I put them on my Sprint and they transformed the handling.

Although tbh ring donuts would have been an improvement on the OE crap Triumph fitted.

Like KFB says I don't think there's many bad tyres these days. It's more case of choosing whether you want sports , sports touring etc.

I have 3 bikes with 3 different manufacturers tyres and I'm buggered if I could pick a favourite.

I really like Metzeler m5 Sportec for road stuff

Pilot road 4 or 5. Instant grip and superb in the wet. Also Dunlop Roadsmart III for more of the same. If you want to go a bit sportier and I think you might then Dunlop sportsmarts are very good too.

I had D207s on my RF900 in the wet it was like they were coated in grease I rode like a district nurse on a wet Sunday mind you these days I do that in the dry too

I have Pilot Road on my K12, think the front is a 4 and the rear a 5GT, they're excellent.

The Ducati Multistrada was sold with Pirelli Angel GT as OEM fitment for the year of engine you have in the Stretta... they have now gone to the Angel GT2

I love them, have used them for all year commuting, touring and even tracked them with some down change in pressure. They warm up quick in the wet and give good grip in dry as well

Most of the Ducati mob on the Multis go for either the Angel GT2's or Michelin PR5's in all honesty

If you ride it a bit more sporty rather than all around use the Bridgestone S22 are a bit more sticky and thought about them for the planned Portimao trip

Pilot road 4 or 5 as said. I've used PR 3,4 and 5 and liked all of them. Don't think you can get the 3's anymore. The 4's wore a bit funny at the end, but that was with over 5k on them. The current 5's have only done about 1500 miles and loads left.

Pirelli Angels or Metzeler Roadtec 01 are very similar to the above I believe.

I've got Metzeler M7RRs on the KTM Duke, Michelin Power RS on the Falco, and Dunlop Roadsmart (R) and Sportsmart (F) on the VFR and they're all a lot better than I am.

If pushed I'd go for the latest Metz in the Sports arena, the M9RR. They are supposed to be better in both dry and wet than the M7RR, which themselves are excellent tyres.

But to be honest, pick your fave manufacturer and buy their tyre in the market segment that suits you.

Just think how the people I passed at Snetterton on a 60bhp bike fitted with pair of Maxxis Super Diamonds must feel, I found them to be okay, they didn't have loads of grip but they let you know what was going on and when you were near the edge of the tyre.
