I want something that not everyone has.

If I buy right it's only ever going to go up in value, unlike a brand new sports bike.
That doesn't mean it's going to be nice to ride though, doesn't mean it'll give you the most enjoyment, or the 'best' ride possible.... I couldn't care less if it goes up in value, only that it's a very good bike. Geometry, frames, forks, shocks, etc all improve massively over the decades.

I've got 4 1980s bikes, none of them are as good as a 2002 GSXR750 (I haven't ridden anything newer than that)

things have come on massively since 2002 as well, i had a gsxr750 K1 i raced back in the day... but things like big piston forks, suspension, wheels, brakes, tyres, even electronics, they've come on SO far.

Think about this.. a MTB is recommended to have suspension serviced yearly.... a motorbike about every 2 years....

How often/when has the suspension been serviced on the bikes you're using now ?

How about this then? :D

Admittedly not a Gixxer, but is an older bike, definitely something that not something everyone has, especially in this condition, anyway, and would buy a lot cheaper than those Gixxers
Genuine 2k km (ie approx 1200-1500 miles )from new and completely un-messed with and original apart from tyres (although still have the original rock-hard Mich Hi-Sports), battery, oil/filter, and cambelt. The mirrors aren't on in that pic, but I have them -ugly square things.
It's been tucked up under a blanket in the corner of my garage and not used for far too long so I've dug it out and will be going as soon as I get an MOT on it- I've just fitted a brand new-old-stock carb set - originals also come with it.

Nordys were superb, really good bikes on a twisty road.

FZR400 - it's done one trackday on it's rear shock and 5 on it's fork oil and springs
FZ750 - the rear shock has done 1000 miles and the forks less than that
Z1170 - shocks about 50 miles, forks need a rebuild - but that's a long story
YPVS - it's in bits, it'll get a suspension rebuild before it gets used

Why don't they give bikes proper model names anymore?

I remember riding the first one of those that came into the UK.
As I remember it WeeVee (a back-street italian dealer) who my Dad knew somewhat, manged to import a very early one and the guy brought it up to the IoM for Manx week to show it around.
Lots of fun - and some very funny stories about that trip.... :D

Thanks for the Nordwest post tricky, I was trying to think of that bike the other day but could only remember the Saturno but knew that wasn't what I was after.

I've seen a few of these old Bloor Trumpets cafe'd in various ways and they almost always look shit.

This one isn't actually half bad!

Now thats very tidy indeed.
The thread about the rebuild is well worth a read.
