How much is your next motorbike likely to cost ?

Depends.

I used to have a history of buying crashers cheap and making them the way I want,part of that was the enjoyment of rebuilding. The last few bikes have been in the 4-6k bracket,as I almost always buy used.

The current bike broke the mould,so since I bought it new I'll more than likely hold on to it for a good few years,unless I'm really smitten by something. The ZH2 is probably the only bike I'd be tempted by sometime in the future. What are they about 15k or so?

Well, I've just dived into motorbike ownership for the first time and including options my Trident was £7800 brand new. I plan on keeping it for 2-3 years then stepping up again, maybe something like a Street Triple/MT09. However, I'd certainly look at used for my next bike. I considered this my treat after working hard for it.

I bought my scooters new when I was younger, my 50cc Aerox was under £2k, and the Maxster 125 was £2700 I think.

I have never owned a new car or bike at any time.

Most i had spent on a bike before the Multistrada's was 4.5K. I only splashed out on the 12K second hand bike as it was going to be a treat to myself as i would be retiring just as the final payment for the PCP was due and the missus was the one who said "for the first time in your life you can afford it"

When it was then written off the payment i got from Highways England for the crash covered the cost of the replacement 10K second hand one. I would love one of the new V4 Multistrada's but at 20+ K thats not happening. If they drop in price down to 10-12K in 3 or 4 years i might just be able to justify it but currently have no plans to change the bike.

My 600 Fazer cost me 800 quid and i'll run that till it dies then buy another cheap shitter for training purposes

That does look like a good one. Right model and colour as you say.

I had an L back in t'day. IIRC it had smaller carbs (so more midrange / less top end). It had some shove in it but it wasn't comfortable and you had to fight it round every corner.

That said, get it bought! That thing's money in the bank.

I concur, things like that are soft purchases because unless you Bellwood it, or it goes on fire or you wrap it around a tree, then you're going to get most, or all, of your money back if you subsequently decide to sell it.
It's like an expensive watch, you're just swapping money for something of equal value and converting it back is simple enough as long as you're willing to run the gauntlet of goons and dreamers that will inconvenience you during the selling process.

I've said it before but if I was in the UK I'd probably buy and sell as many bikes as CC, just so I could try them out. As long as you buy carefully you shouldn't lose much at all and you could probably buy/try a new bike every month and lose little.

Like Iccy says though, it's hard to lose money on bikes like this. I keep complaining about how I didn't get a nice DT125 before they became expensive and that's because I dithered.

If you get one now it's the same principle, I don't see them dropping in price any time soon, so again it's just swapping money in the bank (which is worthless because of no interest) for something of equal or better long term value.

Tbh these days I see buying expensive vehicles as madness as all they do is depreciate, I’ll happily lease a car or road bike though but have limits there of £250 a month for a car and £150 if I was to do a bike. If I’m buying then £10k for either is about what I’m happy with

The Ducati scrambler has gone and it cost me £25 plus £8 insurance to try it and have a few rides. I’m fine with that. Tbh over a year if my hobby costs me £1k-£2k it’s no more than buying a new bike The superduke didn’t cost anything and made around £300 which’ll offset something I lose a bit on this year

The head instructor at my training place had a Honda MT5 as her first bike when she was 16 and after selling it and riding all the big sports bikes wanted another one. Took her years to find a decent original one and got it back to standard using original parts. Its now worth more than she paid for but i cant see her ever selling it
