If I was being pulled over by coppers...
with a penchant (and let's be honest, a bit of previous form) for getting all aggressive and shooty with their guns, do know what I wouldn't do?
I wouldn't fucking-well do a runner when one of them has her gun pointed right at me.
Just sayin' like.....

Re: If I was being pulled over by coppers...
You have a point. Were it I in a similar situation, I would have offered up a cheeky Cock'erny grin, held out my wrists for the 'cuffs to be slapped on and chirpily informed them that it was a fair cop and they'd be 'aving no trouble from me.
And I'd have walked out the nick still alive.
What a fucking pair of doughnuts, both of them. One shoots her gun, thinking it's her Taser, the other one seems to think driving away whilst resisting is a stroke of criminal genius that will end well. FFS.

Re: If I was being pulled over by coppers...
Iirc (I read the story early this morning) the cop had been on the force for 26 years or so. You'd like to think that with that sort of experience she'd know what weapon she had in her hand ffs.
Of course, it brings into question the shape and feel of a tazer - if it is too much like a handgun then there's an obvious issue. But I ceased to be amazed/shocked by the way Americans behave around guns a long time ago. I'm just glad we gave the idiots independence.

Also a step change in being prepared to use that level of force (tazer, that is) from what is considered acceptable over here (as far as I understand it, anyway).

It shows (again) how poorly trained some police forces are in the USA

I've not watched the video with sound.
I can't tell when the shot is fired, if he'd already knocked it into gear... I wonder what would have happened if he'd been tasered and hit the throttle?

Seems to me that the US police are so jumpy that they cause utter terror in people they stop.
Terrified people do bloody stupid things.
If I was black I'm pretty damn sure I wouldn't want any interactions at all with the Minneapolis police

But I suppose if there's a likelihood of somebody being armed, you are going to be twitchy. I'm no expert on this subject matter, but it did seem like a fairly routine, low-risk stop to me. The fact that it escalated so quickly and unexpectedly is quite shocking. It would be interesting to see the footage prior to the BBC clip, just how the coppers approached the vehicle, etc. It does seem that a number of stops caught on body-cam seems to be aggressive, quasi-military affairs, shouting orders, etc., rather than a more reasoned, 'Do you know why I've stopped you?'demographic wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:29 pm Seems to me that the US police are so jumpy that they cause utter terror in people they stop.

Re: If I was being pulled over by coppers...
Like the one in the news a couple of days ago, who was stopped for not displaying a licence plate, although one was visible in the video from the body worn camera.
He said he was scared to get out of the car. Reply? "You should be". He was CS gassed, then on the ground and cuffed.
An army lieutenant, in uniform, BTW.

There seems to be a lot more (perceived) distrust of the police in the states than there is here, and that’s from normal people who generally have no interaction with the police.

Re: If I was being pulled over by coppers...
I'm not sure if this is true but Ive heard the US police was originally set up as armed militias to catch and control slaves so its possibly no surprise that they are treated with distrust by the black population and how come racism seems endemic in US police systems.
Add Americans being...well... American and guns in the mix and it just looks like a fucking disaster to me.

Re: If I was being pulled over by coppers...
From the limited interaction I have had with US cops they have a total sense of humour/customer service bypass as standard.
Example, SF some 25 years ago when Mrs CJ was somewhat younger and not-unpleasant on the eye. Two cops standing on a corner in a busy shopping street chewing gum and looking bored, Mrs CJ goes up to them and asks if she can have a photo with them (we were doing the tourist thing on our first trip to the US). They just totally ignored her. They didn't say they were busy, they didn't say it was against policy, they didn't say anything, they just looked at her as though she was an alien and then carried on chewing gum and looking bored.

I think it's more that some people like that story because it suits their police are racist claims, there were watchmen in Boston long before the slave catchers we're started. The first official police department was NY so again nothing to do with slavery.demographic wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 6:30 pm I'm not sure if this is true but Ive heard the US police was originally set up as armed militias to catch and control slaves so its possibly no surprise that they are treated with distrust by the black population and how come racism seems endemic in US police systems.

If'n the coppers knew what warrants they were arresting him for they might have been a little more twitchy;gremlin wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 2:28 pm

Routine low risk stops can go sideways quick time;

Re: If I was being pulled over by coppers...
I refuse to believe the video of the copper being gunned down was anything other than fake news, else there'd be protests in the street, marches and people coming out in their droves to tell us that Cop Lives Matter, right?
Right?
Right?

Re: If I was being pulled over by coppers...
Seen a couple of vids of Daunte Wright smoking a blunt, gun in his hand, trying to be proper gangsta. He shouldn't have died the way he did, but he was never gonna draw his pension. Sad that kids have locked onto the whole gangsta thing. But when rappers are your role models...

Get rich or die tryin'?
Looks like Daunte got the latter end of the deal.
