It's the excipients that they bought from Croda. There are other manufacturers and some are increasing their output with some manufacturing in Germany.

Yes, I know, but it's the different attutudes to each that I was commenting on.Yorick wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 10:23 amSome folk who had the vaccines have been caught speeding. I believe Pfizer can potentially also get the above key ingredient from a production site in the USA, but presumably that would require export authorisation from the US administration. That might prove to be "tricky".

India, reportedly the world's largest vaccine exporter, has suspended exports of the AZ vaccine in order to meet its own domestic demand.

There seems so be a bit of a global shortage of certain ingredients, maybe it was expected and that's why the EU was in such a panic about expediting their vaccine orders.

Re: Astrazeneca/Oxford vaccine approved
The local centre is open 7 days a week too. Seems like the 'local' people aren't so keen here but lots of friends have been able to get the vaccine
Shame the local one won't follow the government plan to vaccinate anyone in the country even if they don't have the health card. But another one further away did so my friend went for his first this morning and I'll be booking his second this afternoon!
I suspect people in this area will come around to having the vaccine so they can travel and so that there is more chance we'll have a decent winter season - hopefully

In the UK, 2 reports following the Pfizer vaccine (from 10 million doses), and 30 reports, including 7 deaths, following the AZ vaccine (from 18 million doses).Bike Breaker wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 9:10 am To go back to the vaccines, there have been some reports of blood clots following the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines so I'm wondering why they haven't been banned or suspended, too.
Tiny numbers compared to the amount of doses administered though, and still way down compared to Germany with 2.7 million doses aministered.

Re: Astrazeneca/Oxford vaccine approved
On the one hand Europe has rejected AstraZeneca vaccine because of its alleged and unproven blood clotting side effect, in spite of the fact that Covid-19 is an inflammatory disease associated with blood clotting and the vaccine is at least 40 times more effective at preventing death than contracting the virus, and in spite of the fact that the EMA (European Medicines Agency) has repeatedly cleared the vaccine as being safe to use.
On the other hand European countries are rushing headlong into deals for the supply of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine which has not (yet) been approved by the EMA (if it ever will).
Stupidity succinctly addressed by this letter.

I have no idea who this person is btw.Telegraph letter wrote: SIR – It is truly amazing that Germany and France are willing to trust Russia’s Sputnik vaccine and to denounce the AstraZeneca one, which has been approved by the EU and UK regulatory authorities as well as the WHO.
The West has surely learnt time and again that you cannot trust anything that comes out of Russia. If Russia says there are no side-effects to their vaccine, it would appear Germany and France are prepared to take their word. Have they gone completely mad?

I hope when my turn comes I can get the German one. Not the side effecty blood clot AstraZeneca one. So much evidence of issues now - all the politically motivated frothing and head-in-the-sand ranting can't change that.

Not sure whether that is a serious post or not, but assuming that it is, what will you do if the only one offered to you by the NHS is the AZ one?Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 8:11 pm I hope when my turn comes I can get the German one. And yet almost every other "deal for vaccines" was also done prior to regulatory approval.
How else were you able to highlight BJs foresightedness?
It's plunging new depths quoting Letters to the Editor from morons glued to the Telegraph by the way.

Supposedly Matt Hancock insisted on early ordering, having seen the Hollywood blockbuster 'Outbreak'.

Oh.More EU countries eyeing separate deals with Russia for Sputnik vaccine
The vaccine currently lacks all the links in the chain for an EU advanced purchase agreement.
As the EU's vaccine rollout continues to sputter, some countries hoping for a European deal on Russia's Sputnik V are thinking about working with Moscow directly.

Might be better to watch Soderbergh's film Contagion because that's what allegedly inspired Hancock.
