Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?

From tmrw we are introducing really strict rules. Covid cases went berserk over Xmas and they scared it'll happen again over Easter.

Can't even have the lads round to watch the MotoGP races

I broke restrictions last night. Sat chatting with friends who are leaving tomorrow for maybe three weeks (assuming they can get back in easier than they might be able to leave if the red thing happens). Got back a bit after (a big bit) after the 7pm curfew. But since the tourists have mostly gone, there isn't exactly a police presence at the mo


Sodding gutted tho. Last saturday a group of us got together and, whilst eating and drinking, watch the rugby saturday matches. Tonight I'm back to watching solo again

I've followed all the rules all the way through. Today my bike was being serviced at the dealer in Hemel Hempstead - a 70mile round trip for me. I wasn't allowed to wait there due to the restrictions. Instead of heading East to go back home I instead went West for a few hours on their loaner.

I've met up with both Tricky and GP/IanB in the last week, however i don't believe any of us put ourselves at any great risk, we had a coffee standing about talking crap, but there was no hugging or kissing that's for sure

I'm still of the belief that standing around 6' apart poses very very little in the way of risk.

I've been working in a garage the last few days, 3 mechanics mechanicing and 2 of us monkeys doing tyres, the boss and his wife in reception. Reception has screens on the counter tops. We're in a large airy workshop with big open doors at either end.

I wear a snood neck warmer thing, whenever a customer comes in, the neck warmer is moved to cover my mouth and nose, same if I go into reception, even if I go outside to tend to a customer I make sure my mouth and nose are covered.

I am literally the ONLY person wearing any sort of face protection

Are you sanitising your hands after each time you touch the virus laden cloth around your neck?

Am I adhering? Mostly, and breaches are legal loopholes. Ad hoc childcare care, mental wellbeing type loopholes.

I'm going to break the curfew/lockdown rules on Monday. I've decided.

I'm going to get the 9 am bus into town - I'm not supposed to be out before 10 am and then only for 4 hours.

I'm going to travel into town and back again with a bus load of poor people ignoring social distancing - that's what buses are for, right?

I'm going to have a chat with some strangers in a closed environment - I guess it makes a change from having a chat with friends.

I don't care.

After completing my application for another 2 years residency permit I asked for an interview time and date that would allow me to do it all within the time parameters allowed - Wednesday at 12 midday - an available appointment slot. I could go to the market on Monday morning and the delivery day for the courier companies to this village is Tuesday and I might have a delivery. But the system told me that my appointment was going to be 11:30 on Monday, requiring me to break the law/rules.

Of course, it'll be OK because I have an appointment with a government department but ffs, if the same government department can't give me the appointment that I choose, that allows me to do what we need to do within the rules then why the fuck should I bother at any other time?

I last had the Flu over 15 years ago, of my mates I reckon it's just as rare.

If Covid can infect you 2-3 times in a year and gets worse each time then we are fucked. It's either hide forever or go back to normal with a sizeable risk of getting sick.

I've never had flu. I think I'm weird! I've had bad colds, but never something that meant I couldn't get up and function. But then, if I had covid, it was seriously mild.

I think that at some point we have to get back to something like normal but if people have been vaccinated then hopefully it will only cause problems like flu does, and not kill thousands of people ??

Wonder how places like Spain will fare with the covid travel restrictions, as Brits alone contribute around £8 billion to its coffers each year and tourism is its 3rd biggest income stream. Plus with Brexit restrictions a lot of Brits are now being forced to come home. That's not a very rosy picture for the Spanish economy. Bet they'll be keen to see us back!!

It's strange here at the moment as it's so quiet. Personally I'm enjoying it, but the island needs the tourism money.

Most tourists have gone back before their 90 days expire, but there's always a few who know best.

If a travel corridor opens up between here and Skegness Butlins, I'd probably consider it FFS just for the change of scene.

But yeah I expect I'll be holidaying locally this year, I tend to do that anyway tbh but I don't think I'll have much choice for a while.

We was going to book a canal boat holiday or cabin cruiser on the Norfolk Broads, but apparently there is no chance with everything fully booked. Although i'll need to check as my Sister looked at it and i'm not sure she is that keen on a boating holiday and maybe telling porkies! To be fair, most reports on the TV say "Staycations" are looking very good, even unprecedented, for British tourism!

If travel restrictions are lifted I did fancy driving down to Spain with the lid down, but I suspect the French as going to make passing through as awkward as they can? Even though I'll have had both jabs by then, I still don't fancy airports and flying etc. So I suspect it'll be year 2 at home for us...

I have to say though if this (peaks and troughs of infections and travel bans) then I'll probably call it quits and go back to the UK. I can't be doing with not seeing family for years at a time.

I doubt easyJet and Ryanair will be around much longer tempting me into a dozen cheap flights every year anyway

Lots of 'advisory' "don't take the piss and drive about all over the place" here, same as in the UK but no concerted effort to prevent. Whanging down the peage in an open topped forrin plated car with your sombrero on is really asking for it as an easy collar though isn't it? But yeah, in your shoes I wouldn't risk it.

I sold our old tents during the first lockdown as I could see the spectre of camping rising up and its something i don't really want to do again, but I suspect you're right, it'll be becoming very popular.

I sold the folding camper as the kids are too old to want to be stuck in a field with their parents for two weeks but kept our tents.
Decent UK pitches were not cheap or easy to find even before lockdown, for the price of a campsite pitch for two weeks we could get a pretty 3 bed cottage with WiFi for a week.
This year my holiday money is going into improving the garden, stuff the bun fight that will be UK holidays this year.
