Cheaper electronic shifting on the way. SRAM AXS GX

Post by weeksy »

Was only a matter of time, but SRAM seem to be putting together an AXS GX system for MTBs.

So cable-less shifting all electronic.

Something to embrace or a problem that didn't actually need fixing in the first place ?

surly that a good thing, gets rid of having to adjust cables, but what potential issues would arise from electric???

As an AXS user here, it's bloody brilliant. Fit, setup and forget. I put the gears back on earlier this month, it took all of 15 minutes to reinstall the derailleur, cassette and shifter and then a slight tweak of the stepper motor (hold ON button and move paddle to make it step 0.1mm at a time) to make the indexing perfect.

We will of course ignore the two hours lubing wheel bearings, getting XD carrier bearings replaced and the "strongly worded listening" too at the LBS about my bearing killing ability.

Him - I would want to know what it’s functionality and realisability is like in South Downs Winter slop first.

Are they botch proof if it goes wrong on the trail?

I must admit to converting to SS for winter but the few times its got muddy on the Downs the AXS has performed well (though not the true depths of winter mudfest stuff) and has coped fine with horrendous Dartmoor conditions.

I’m in if the price is reasonable, ebikes take a lot of hammer on gears so anything to reduce that will be good especially if it’ll work with the Bosch motor and back off the power when changing

Reviews seem very good. But at £554 for the kit, i'm very much a NO at this stage.

Noooooo it's so not me... It's fixing a problem i don't have now and have never really had in honesty... Even if it were a problem, it's not a £550 problem !
