Peak power is not really so much of a consideration really, most people tend to ride in the lower power settings, mine is normally in tour mode unless it's a big hill, in which case I may go up to sport and turbo is reserved for when it gets really silly steep. Remember a small contact patch on a loose surface doesn't combine well with huge amounts of power (unless you can keep the throttle pinned)
I'm sure those that are willing to spend this sort of money are going to love the bike in the same way as the person that buys the top of the range Ducati superbike loves it. The bike may only get ridden to a fraction of it's capability but who cares, it's a great piece of engineering and someone is happy to own it

And will bring the inevitable ban and registration in quicker. TBH I have no issue with e-bike, it gets folks out who wouldn't normally ride. I do have an issue with e-bikes when they push pass me on up hill climbs at above restriction speeds. Which is becoming more and more common.
I'm not sure there's many hills an ebike has the power to go above 15mph, derestriction doesn't give any more power just removes the limit. Looking on strava the quickest ebikes and quickest normal bikes are very close so an ebike isn't going any faster than normal bikes can, in places though the normal bikes are quicker downhill and on some long straight flat bits are also quicker, ebikes quicker on most uphills which isn't going to get them banned, there is a perceived view that ebikes go quicker everywhere and it just isn't so. I don't get why going uphill at speed is dangerous but going downhill faster isn't ?
As for pushing past that's not me I always wait but I guess some don't and not a lot we can do about that.
I do agree that lockdown has bought loads of people onto the trails that have no idea of trail etiquette, the majority of those on the local trails are non ebikes. It's so bad at our local one they are removing the jump park which has been there ten plus years as so many of these folk are hurting themselves

I think it's all about the terrain isn't it, around here I'd estimate that the majority of bikes are emtb because of the amount of climbing that we do.
Quicker the climb = more time on the DH = big smiles
As for being passed on the uphill, the first time I ever saw an emtb, the rider tried to squeeze past me on an uphill single-track, he clipped my handlebar knocking me off and down the hill. I was fucking livid and he didn't hang around.
E-Bikes have been a great enabler and Friston at the weekend now seems to have more shiny new E bikes than clockwork/analogue ones. It's great that a lot more people are getting to see the Downs and riding bikes.
The problem is a lot of them are "boil in the bag" riders, mainly on E-Bikes with zero trail etiquette. I tore a tyre on a trail last year, my get me home inner tube was borked and I had about 6 riders come past me on the trail as I was pushing home and not one asked if I needed help and one cheeky fucker even laughed at me!. My mate came down a fast trail to find a bike upside down in the middle of the singletrack, wheel out and the chain stays pointing straight him as the riders were trying to fix it! Sadly a few of them also have a huge entitlement chip on their shoulders, thinking they can ride anywhere, dig any sort of trail feature and screw the public, especially the horse riders.
Where I ride has a fractious relationship/balance with the Forestry Commission and local walkers/dobbin groups and the influx of new riders caused a great deal of angst last year, hopefully it will be better this year..........

It must have been great on the trails before ebikes, polite riders and no one breaking the law causing hassle etc
All the troubles I see at my local centre are normal bikes, riding wrong way having picnics and letting kids play on red trail. Doesn’t mean all normal bike riders are dicks does it ?
It does mean a large majority of boil in the bag cyclists don’t understand trails as it’s been since lockdown, hopefully when the retail parks are open and pubs all day they’ll go back to that

I hear ya, don’t get me started on cyclists, poor pasty skinny bearded vegan environmentalists clogging up the trails on their cheap poor person transport. Do they not know how much my ebike cost and that I’ve paid to park my Porsche so I now own the trail ?, I could buy them but tbh what use are they to me ?

And that is very true - but I suppose the defining factor is people over taking uphill on single track on a normal bike are few and far between. But doing so on an e-bike is within the skill of most of those who ride them... and they get pissed of with old fashion bikes going slowly.
But it is fair to say that there are a few dickheads on regular mountain bikes...
A quick "I am coming past on on your right, or at the next wide bit" etc would go a miss
As you state the epiphany will come when they can all go back to Cineworld and JB Sports at the weekend ... which will be great. As I have said I have no issue with people using trails - it just comes down to simple respect. And that does include walkers, dog walkers and the waking dead with their kids ...
And it does piss me off when cyclist use footpaths - sorry. There are enough bridal ways , BOATS, tracks etc that there is no need - and that stirs the hate pot.
