Will your next bicycle be manually driven or an Ebike ?
What you thinking then for the longer term ? A new manual bike ? a new ebike ?

Re: Will your next bicycle be manually driven or an Ebike ?
As my current road bike is now mine (it was bought using CTW and that period is now over) it's being put in a bag and left in a friends garage on Lanzarote so that I don't have to keep taking it back and forward. I'm using the CTW scheme to buy another one - identical (if we can find it in stock!) that will live in my garage here and do my road miles.
Re: Will your next bicycle be manually driven or an Ebike ?
I am glad they make ebikes for when I am too old to pedal. But in the meantime I am using my legs and lungs - use 'em or lose 'em.
I'm not sure what mt very next bike will be MTB or road but it will be me-powered.

Before I cast my vote, what do you mean by "low power" and "full power"? I'm assuming "derestricted" means over 250 watt so you can't (legally) use them on the roads so they're of no interest to me.
I'm 72 years old. My current bike will last me until I want or need the extra assistance to get up the hills. So I think my next bike will be electric but not for a few years yet.
Also, I think I know what you mean by "manual" but my bikes have all been foot (pedal) operated not hand (manual).

Low power like the Ezesty and Levo SL, they're lower in power output and battery size/weight, so not as full on, but not as heavy either.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 10:31 am Before I cast my vote, what do you mean by "low power" and "full power"? All ebikes are 250w even derestricted ones Only the battery size is different. You can buy 250w + bikes but these are emotorbikes

I thought they were lower. Just smaller battery then?
Re: Will your next bicycle be manually driven or an Ebike ?
Next bike will be a larger (625) battery powered hard tail MTB ( if I can find one that doesn’t mean an 18 month wait) which I will promptly add a Speedbox or similar to overcome the 15.5mph limit

Yeah, they don’t have the high assist modes either so although the same power don’t give the same assist. Motors by their nature are also harder to measure the output especially with assist but in theory all ebikes are 250w output.

I think in the UK they're classified as motorbikes or mopeds but other countries allow higher power than 250 watt and a higher cut out speed.

Basically yeah. There’s also some confusion over ebikes as people assume they go without input, they should be called e assist bikes tbh. They can be ridden giving it 100% human effort as well, tbh that’s how I ride mine pretty much all the time. All my effort plus all the motor effort which is why I go as fast as a top level athlete. Of course you can choose to ride them slowly and work less but where’s the fun in that

id love an E-MTB but don't fancy paying 5k for one, having rides one I bloody loved it, but the range let it down, plus my T140 is still brand new. I want a tasty new drop bar roadie by the end of this year.

Re: Will your next bicycle be manually driven or an Ebike ?
I would consider and e bike in the next few years - but I need the punishment of climbing hills to keep my weight down and diabetes in remission. Oddly, I kind of like climbs as well as a "test".
My concern is that the motors are way too fragile to handle the sort of shit down here in Sussex - and the development. MTBs are going through a slightly stupid phase - LLS seems to be giving way to 62 degree head angles and 80 degree seat angles. I get the feeling we will all look back in a few years and laugh is a fat bike/ flex stem/ raised chain stays/ plus tyres sort of way.
So once the Geometry Wars have finished , and reliability issues have been address, I could see myself with one. If the weren't so goddamn ugly ...

All my Bosch ebikes have been fine, I had one specialised that got rejected after a month. A lot of issues are people jet washing them and not maintaining them properly.

It seems to be Specialized ones that have issues - but I have heard of others failing. Sometimes will discussions about abuse - but MTBs do tend to get abused.
And unfortunately a leccy motor placed where its is works well in Moab, or California, or Spain - less so it the shite that there is here ...

Used mine in all weathers and conditions, always cleaned and dried without jet washing and covers off to check inside. Also added waterproof grease on early Bosch. Later ones not so much of an issue, the IP rating is good enough for the UK but not for jet washing.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 5:20 pmIt seems to be Specialized ones that have issues - but I have heard of others failing. Re: Will your next bicycle be manually driven or an Ebike ?
The new Brose 2.2 motor in the Speccy's is supposed to have a wider stronger belt so hopefully that's that problem sorted (and the 2.1 motors have had a software remap to allegedly stop the belt getting over stressed). Bosch motors seem pretty good, they get noisy and the CX has a large narrow ring bearing prone to failing but there is an aftermarket seal that seems to help and also another seal kit for the other side bearing which apparently is a bit of a pig to change. When I opened up Mrs M's 4 year old Bosch Motor in her 2015 cube (it had new motor under warranty after about 11 months) aside from the ring "squaring" everything else was pretty much spot on.

My Bosch has had 820 miles of abuse and has been fine so far, it's been submerged in muddy water, clogged with clay and generally abused because we all love splashing in muddy puddles.
