Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?

I visit my 80 year old vulnerable mum twice a week, her view on 'the rules' = Dont even think about not visiting!

As soon as the weather improves I'll be out on the bike for a nice ride and a stop for a coffee somewhere picturesque.

Also go for a walk with the family somewhere other than the Hertford area, probably Maldon/Heybridge for starters and meet up with my folks ASAP, not seen them since Oct

My missus had a rant about previous workplaces with lots of rough men making her feel uncomfortable, she wouldn't believe me when I said I'd worked in places full of rough women who were just as badly behaved.

Absolutely. I worked in a place where some of the women thought nothing of a prolonged tackle grab and an attempt at a tongue down your throat. They took turns to stalk,while the others cheered.

It was quite amusing. When it happened to other blokes who didn't know to be careful.

I’ve got a mate who served his time as a fitter in a clothes/sewing factory with about 300 women working on sewing machines. When he had to go in there he’d rarely make it out with any clothes on. He was scarred for life.

People will be allowed to meet outside, either with one other household or within the "rule of six", including in private gardens
The stay at home rule will end, but the government will urge people to stay local as much as possible

It's not full on freedom, but it's a step in the right direction. If i'm honest though, i'm not seeing a massive change for me, apart possibly from adding in a couple of extra mates for cycling, possible meeting up with the Wiltshire crew for a natter... but day to day, very little will change here. Once the hospitality opens up, that'll change a few things with some garden based meals out looking at the hills... but that's essentially about it.

I've barely ridden the XSR this year, but that has been more down to circumstances/life and weather rather than guilt about going out.

I reckon things won't feel substantially different until May, just as apart from the odd day April might not be warm enough for outdoor meals. Hopefully it will, but I reckon May and being able to have an evening out will make a bigger difference. Also my boy is desperate for me to take him back to Duxford/Chatham and they won't open till May.

Both April and May feel like forever away at the moment for me. I feel like a teenager waiting for my 17th birthday and the start of riding/driving lessons, it's dragging a lot.

Been out all day and got back to the apartment just before 6pm. Had to unload the shopping then take the car to the carpark. Walked back inside the buildings to avoid the gendarme spotting me on the roadside!!

As I got to the exit of the last covered bit before my place, my friend was cleaning down his cafe/bar (he's doing takeaway food during the day) and we said hello then he offered me a drink - which I thought would help the aches in my arm!! LOL

Think we chatted for almost an hours whilst he was cleaning - when he'd finished, we went our separate ways!

It was really really nice to stand and chat with a mate. I only get to chat if I stop by when there are no other customers.

Yes it was outside curfew. But no there was no extra risk to him or me than if I'd stopped by for a coffee in the morning. And it cheered us both up

I will endeavour not to be out after 6pm again though. The boss of the police municipale up here isn't a fan of mine (not sure why not, possibly cos I'm English!) so definitely don't want to be spotted by her out of hours

These lockdowns are definitely causing us to find pleasure or distraction where we can. Last Fri I had a holiday day to use up, the only thing I needed to do was drop some books back at the library and pop to Tesco. 30-5 mins if I took the car.

Instead I decided to walk on the basis it'd take closer to 2 hours and give me something to do and help fill my day! A walk to town and back was the highlight of my day

Yesterday I managed to take all day to change the handlebar on my new FS MTB, and to recalibrate three kitesurfing bars. It was a real struggle to make these jobs take a whole day, but I managed it.

It is very weird. To be told that legally you cannot go outside your home (or a home) after 6pm at night (pretty sure that's just changed to 7pm) or before 6am in the morning

Back when it was introduced, a friend and I were talking about it and he commented "who would have thought that in this day and age, we would have a curfew"

I think lockdown in the spring last year was way easier - it was the first, the sun was shining and if you needed to shop you could. The curfew in the winter is proper weird and a bit depressing.

The guy I was talking to last night runs a bar - so normally he'd be talking to customers from 8am through till gone midnight!! Which is partly why I stopped. I could have been home just 15 mins late. But I think we both needed a chance to chat and pretend there was a smidgen of normality!

What do you mean ‘better than that’? It’s a straightforward comment if sadness that grown ups are being locked indoors like prisoners ..

As for temporary ...do you remember 3 weeks to flatten the curve ?have you seen the latest ‘science’ that vaccination alone won’t stop the spread ? ...I suspect we will still be getting locked down periodically and forced to wear masks and stay away from friends and family for many more years yet ..

We had an easing of restrictions here last week and cafe bars were allowed to open from 10 am until 7 pm with 50% capacity allowed

The first day most of the places with the right licence were full (as allowed) with ex-pats, most of whom had to be back home by 2 pm. People are starved of social company and I know a few in the village that are struggling with it.

The Turks? They're just getting on with their lives and paying the fine if needs be.

No, they're not. They're allowed out to exercise, no-one is forced to stay at home, people can go shopping, people can go walking, cycling etc.

TBH not really. I generally only chatted to 2 of the guys i sat near. I speak to one of them now every day on the phone/messenger, the other i see occasionally for a MTB ride and will more next week once allowed.
