Don't forget the similar calculations to estimate deaths from 'delay in lockdown' and 'impact of "eat out to help out" policy' and 'creating white elephant Nightingale hospitals with no staff'. I think they were called 'common sense calculations'.irie wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 12:02 pm
Hundreds of times, and more likely thousands of times, more people than above will die as a result of these "political" decisions.
Saw an epidemiological calculation that each day delay in vaccination would likely result in an additional ~15 deaths per 100,000 un-vaccinated people. Doesn't sound much until you do a bit of elementary arithmetic.

I see the EU is complaining too many vaccines are leaving the EU whilst not enough are arriving.
If they used the vaccines they have I might have more sympathy.

Desperately trying to find a scapegoat for their own screwups.

These fools are a laughing stock in Europe, nobody believes them.At the same time, some countries aren't using all the Oxford/AstraZeneca doses they do have. The most recent data available show the rate of administration — the doses used in each EU country versus the doses received — differs significantly by manufacturer. In Belgium, Hungary, the Netherlands and Slovenia, less than one-third of Oxford/AstraZeneca doses that were delivered have been administered up until March 7.
In Germany, where some people have reportedly turned down the offer to get vaccinated with the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab after the country's scientists raised concern over its efficacy in older populations, the administration rate for this vaccine is only slightly higher, with less than half of the AstraZeneca doses having been used.

Reminds me of "The Marching Morons" by Kornbluth.
I believe that there are ~7.5m unused AstraZeneca vaccine doses in the EU.
Go figure.
Edit: add 7.5m

I seem to recall the EU wrer complaining we did not let them have enough of the Vaccine in the first place.

EMA: the incidence of blood clots after vaccination is lower than one would expect in the general population. Vaccination likely reduces the risk of thrombotic events overall.

That advice applies to anyone with those symptoms, vaccinated or not.

People who experience a headache for more than four days after having the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab should seek medical attention, the UK's medicines regulator has said.irie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 4:18 pmNo, those are not vaccination related symptoms.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 4:15 pm It's ok, it's ok, it's ok .... no it's not!

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said its latest advice was a "precautionary measure" following a number of reports of an extremely rare form of blood clot occurring in conjunction with lowered platelets after vaccination.

What you said seems to be at odds with what the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said.

It is what Dr Sabine Strauss of the EMA said at 16.10 today. It likely reduces the risk of thrombotic events because it prevents a disease which itself causes thrombotic events.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 4:46 pmWhat you said seems to be at odds with what the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said.irie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 4:43 pmPosted today, Thu Mar 18, 2021 4:12 pm in this thread.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 4:23 pm
