fyi, you can read the posts without logging in, I don't know if this is by design or not.
No idea if it's a problem for anyone, I guess it just means the spiders and crawlers get to index it easier.

There are some forums ’coughs’ e.g. ukgser where you can only see some threads if you’re a paid up member.......

Yup. Makes sense as certain things works best when it’s members only.
Access to classifieds for subscribers is one of them.
Means it gives a level of trust in some respects as those in there have actually made the decision to contribute
