A disgusting display of politics. The EU as a political movement is on its last legs and they just shot themselves in the foot. Again.

How long can they keep limping along threatening the UK with their "power" when they just look weaker and more desperate every time they pull a trick like this...
Two countries within the EU have paused the AZ rollout, hardly an EU conspiracy. Maybe Norway, Iceland and Thailand are all in on it as well

I can’t understand why people like you keep wanting to find conspiracy theories about everything.

The EU fucked up their pre order for AZ then suddenly, they make spurious claims about its efficiency which affected the vaccine uptake across the whole of Europe. If that wasn’t enough, they go on to publicise an equally disingenuous “report” suggesting the AZ vaccine causes blood clots when there is no statistical evidence for this whatsoever.

It smacks of sour grapes and their political shenanigans are literally killing people.
You seem to be suggesting that the EU, being made up of 27 countries, are somehow conspiring against AZ/UK/whatever. I pointed out that only 2 EU countries at the time of writing had actually paused the AZ rollout, as well as 3 non-EU countries. But yeah, it's people like me who are wanting to find conspiracy theories.

Oh, by the way...
There is no indication that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is linked to an increased risk of blood clots, the EU's medicines regulator says.

No I am not suggesting that and you are the only person here who keeps wanting to find a conspiracy. You have conspiracy theory on the brain, this is not your first rodeo. So presenting what you think as if it is a reflection of what I have actually said is there for all to see. I stand by everything I have said.

It is factually true to say “the EU” (in the vernacular which ordinary people refer to this gigantic political circus) did in fact trash the AZ vaccine publicly without any merit in their criticism. They then also publish an even more tenuous claim that AZ causes blood clots. These are real events that actually happened and not conspiracy theories you are so obsessed with.

...and in denying it and trying to pin it on me, there you go again, shouting conspiracy theory as if that somehow explains away the despicable behaviour of this failing political project.

So of the above two posts (the first two in this post, not the last of yours that I'm commenting on!) you think Hoonercat is the one with the conspiracy theory issues???

The EU as a whole has not trashed the AZ vaccine - but you seem to think it has??

The Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Bulgaria (?) have suspended the use of the AstraZeneca jab because of fears of blood clots.

This is in spite of ...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56397592
People should still get their Covid vaccine despite several EU countries pausing use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab amid concern about blood clots, the UK medicines regulator has said.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said evidence "does not suggest" the jab causes clots.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-56370636
Countries should not stop using AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine over fears it causes blood clots as there is no indication this is true, the World Health Organization says.

Bulgaria, Denmark and Norway are among the countries that have paused its use.

But on Friday a WHO spokeswoman said there was no link between the jab and an increased risk of developing a clot.

EU says 'no indication' vaccine linked to clots
There is no indication that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is linked to an increased risk of blood clots, the EU's medicines regulator [European Medicines Agency] says.

It said the number of cases in vaccinated people was no higher than in the general population.

Most of these cases have been in Norway haven't they?

What's odd is we've administered something like 17m AZ doses and haven't noted any, whereas Norway doesn't even have that many people. Are we not looking/noticing or is it over caution? I guess we won't know until it's tested more.

AFAIK, Bulgaria has run out/is about to run out of the AZ vaccine. With elections in less than a month, I wouldn't be surprised if this temporary suspension is more of a political move to avoid criticism of its vaccine rollout, under the guise of public safety.

It's a big call, BBC reporting that Italy have withheld 400k vaccine's. That's 400k people not vaccinated for what at least a couple of weeks extra and that's only in Italy. Plus this will feed the rumour mill and mean more people won't take it all over the world as they'll be scared to. I don't want to get dragged into the UK/EU stuff and I've no idea what's behind it or what the truth is but there does seem to be an awful lot of negative press/opinion of the AZ vaccine.

AZ are saying there have been something like 17 incidents out of 20 million jabbed, which is less than you'd expect. Maybe they should pedal it as preventing clots.

It's the cheap option, I think outside Europe's political issues it will be widely used.

Italy is pulling up the drawbridge in terms of lock down again, half the country on full lock down (red) and many more regions orange. Whole of Italy will be a red zone over Easter.

In short, they can't afford to be bloody picky.

I work with a lad in Telford and he just got his invite for the jab. He's 49 with no issues, so some area's are knocking it out much quicker than others. I'm 54 and no invite yet. 🙁

AFAIK locally we're approaching 70% of the population having had their first jab and have just started giving the second one to health care staff and the very old.

Surprisingly, and pleasingly, the health board have been mostly very organised, usually they couldn't find their arse with both hands and road map.

Given these infection trends, does look to be the worst possible time to be suspending AstraZeneca jabs.

It's the equivalent of a man crawling through the scorching desert, coming to a well offering cool, refreshing water at the bottom and turning his nose up as the bucket looks a bit grubby....
