I'll tell my wife - she'll be thrilled. She had 2.5 level 3 patients last night. Normally 1 to 1. She'll be relieved it's going to be below normal levels tonight....
Instead of the sarcasm, maybe have a read where I said ‘my local ITU ‘ ...as far as I know I live nowhere near where your wife works ..

...and I’m sure you realise that your local ICU isn’t the only one in the country. It’s not just the numbers that are causing the issue, it’s the management of Covid v non-Covid as well.

The numbers are definitely easing though.

You CAN get the AZ vaccine in France - but only currently from your GP. The vaccine centres are only administering Pfizer - no idea why - but they did seem to think (biddy on reception) that that might change 'in the coming weeks'.

Anyway - screw them, I'm getting my AZ a week on Saturday. :)
Seems that there's no vaccine shortage in the below countries, so other factors are at work.

https://www.politico.eu/article/coronav ... e-numbers/
In Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Italy and Slovenia, less than one in four Oxford/AstraZeneca doses that were delivered have been administered.

In Germany, where some people have reportedly turned down the offer to get vaccinated with the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab after the country's scientists raised concern over its efficacy in older populations, the administration rate for this vaccine is only slightly higher, with less than one in three AstraZeneca doses having been used.

I just had to go to the pharmacie for pain meds, so asked again about the vaccine (don't have transport at the mo, so easier to get jabbed up here if possible)

Big discussion about how I have to be over 50 and with something 'on the list' before they can request a vaccine for me!! To their surprise I ticked the required boxes and have a prescription, so they've added me to their list - she said that they need 10 people to want the vaccine in resort through their pharmacie before they will be allowed supplies. So hopefully, between them and the centre in the valley I'll get a call soon!! LOL

Sometimes it's best not to worry about what's in the vaccine. Take Astrazeneca for example, how many people here knew it is genetically modified monkey juice flavoured with embryonic kidney?

From here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... strazeneca

Recombinant, replication-deficient chimpanzee adenovirus vector encoding the SARS CoV 2 Spike glycoprotein. Produced in genetically modified human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells.

Ooh ooh, ahh ahh, waaa. :o

Well it was never going to be fruit juice and sugar...

In simple terms, i don't even consider what's in any of the drugs we take for various things, they're never likely to be nice things. But thinking back, that's how it's always been from the days of Abysynthe etc.... It's yukky stuff designed to make things better.

Well this could be a bit of a game changer for the Portimao crew.
UK looking at international travel certification

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has told the House of Commons that the government's Global Travel Taskforce will introduce a travel certification to allow people to travel abroad.

He says this could be done by using schemes like the International Air Transport Association's travel pass or the World Economic Forum's common pass.

He says he has been having conversations with his US counterparts and "many others around the world" in order to get "travel going again".

The transport secretary says the Global Travel Taskforce report will be made public on 12 April
Which i can't say would shock me, in fact chatting on phone with Fil2 the other day i said i thought it would be highly likely that in the first 4-6 weeks after opening up flights they'll only be for the vaccinated. I think that's a pretty likely outcome to start with.

Just got this from my cousin's duaghter...
David has been taken in to hospital. After his vaccine 2 weeks ago he became ill on Saturday and was taken to hospital. He has something called gullien barre syndrome. He has lost all feeling in legs and arms. He was rushed down to intensive care yesterday morning and is now unconscious and on a ventilator as he has a bad chest infection.

He's obviously an unlucky one, only 58.

I’m part of the Novavax Phase 3 trial and I’ve either had both doses last year or I’ve had two placebo shots. To remain unblinded on the trial (which is scheduled to finish in October) I’ve just had to decline my NHS invitation, I could have opted to unblind at this stage to accept it but I feel invested in the study and want to see it through. In return I will receive a dose of wherever I didn’t have back in October (placebo or real thing) on 8th April with the second dose guaranteed 3 weeks later. So I’ve either already been fully vaccinated or will be by end of April.

How do the blood clots stats compare to those in the volume of population? I believe there have been 30 cases - and one death. Which is slightly lower that without the vaccine...

Obviously - but what is the those that have had the vaccine blot clot rate vs those who haven't?
Or is this just more anti AZN stuff from the EU, because of their extremely slow approval process? My ex work colleagues in Germany are absolutely livid with Von Der Leyen and Merkel for their politicking

I think the issue here is that <an amount> of people have had clots following the AZ jab. Whether or not that's proportionate against what normal clotting rates are will be unclear, but needs investigating to rule out relational cause.

And that would appear to be a sensible approach - so I am guessing they must have the figures/ stats ...
