John Lewis last week took a load of money off me for a printer and sent me a note saying it had been shipped with a 48 hour delivery.
All fine until I phone to chase it today and it turns out they never had it in stock so couldn't have posted it.
I can understand stock issues but lying to me about being shipped and then forgetting about it is not good.

No matter what size jug of coffee creamer I buy, I always get about half the amount needed for a cup of coffee at the end.

Have to got Harrogate next week for a RAF vets funeral. Have checked gov COVID websites - both sides of the boarder and if we've been ''invited by the family'' we're good to go. Same applies for overnight Premier Inn.

Obtain written invite from family.

Ring South Wales Police - just to check getting out of Wales - much Oh ? and Ah ? and ''we can't confirm if it's OK to travel''

Mention it to a guy I know in South Wales Traffic - Can't confirm but carry paperwork and ring local police and see what they say ( u mean Yorkshire !!!)

We've decided to travel in pairs, no colours and what will be will be.

Have set up a Just Giving page - ''Free the Welsh Boys''

Good job it was different when the Vet had to fly his Lancaster...

Following on from the crap deals at supermarkets.....

Supermarkets who's "yellow labels" don't discount by enough. IME Tescos have got really shit for this recently.

IE A ham a cheese slice, goes out of date today, it's 7:30 PM so the price has been reduced

Was £2.39

Now £2.25

Gee thanks Tesco, how do you ever stay in business !

Last time that happened to me with JL I rang up to moan and they apologised by way of a massive bunch of flowers for the missus. Then they inexplicably sent my original order, twice. I'm still waiting for them to ask for it back.

Following on from the following on. Most of Tescos discounts are 'club card price' offers... I don't have a club card... Mrs Weeksy does. I could use hers but if i end up in Tescos it's often by chance rather than planning so i don't have it with me.

Wireless mice and keyboards.

Why do they give me a wireless mouse and keyboard to go with a desktop computer? It's not like I'm lugging the desktop around with me, now I've gotta change the batteries in something that doesn't need to be wireless :D

This along with chargeable items like hoovers....

a} they are shit
b} the charge doesn't last long enough
c} like all batteries - the max charge diminishes with age

I have plenty of plug sockets around my house, there is no need for environmentally damaging batteries in things like hoovers. In fact this post should be in the "doesn't need to exist" thread.

I don't want one :) I want to be able to buy the things on offer. I don't need extra shit on the keyring.

I have a wireless mouse because the cable was a pain, never long enough or catching on things or just . . . there. But the feckin' wireless thing thing eats batteries and when I changed them last I made a note of the date because it seems too often and I want to see just how expensive they are.

But come on Daz, you can't have it all ways - change is good and change to new technology is even betterer than good so wireless has got to be the dogs doohdahs, surely?

I find it hard to believe you think old technology is somehow . . . better. :D

Then you sorely misunderstood a lot of what i have said over the years. I've even said "there are no new ideas" many times. :D

You have also told me that I'm a dinosaur, an anachronism and that all change is for the better.

If I have misunderstood you it's because you've been using words that had a different meaning when I were a lad and I haven't kept up with the changes. But I like you Daz, you're a very smart cookie. When you get going I just remind myself that even you haven't found a better alternative to Archimedes' screw. ;)

Like most things, there's an app for it now too. It is proper hard to get the self checkouts to scan the barcode on your phone screen though!

I do it through Google pay, generally speaking IDGAS about the points anymore I just want the lower price. :D

Not sure if I'm more annoyed with ParcelForce or Toolstation for using them.

Delivery turned up early when I was in a meeting and he left quickly. Go on the tracking site, phone up and it's all the same 'Instructions will be on the note the driver put through your door'. Would be nice if he left a note, eventually got through to someone on the phone who guessed they would try delivering it again tomorrow.
Fingers crossed it's not waiting in a Post Office then.

I've spent the last 15 years or so working with nothing but 'new stuff'...pretty much my whole working life has been that way, 'cept for the first bit when I worked on Nuclear reactors which perhaps a little ironically are actually quite low tech.

Crucially though, pretty much every field I've ever worked in has been results driven. Motorsport, Aerospace, Medical, Elite Sports, Industrial etc. All stuff that has to work 'for real' with no element of "look at the shiny shiny!" to it. Not consumer goods basically. So if it don't work, it don't get made. Inevitably that means pretty much EVERYTHING I deal with includes what you might call 'old tech', because well....old tech bloody works, don't it? Otherwise it wouldn't still be around.

So yeah, don't be surprised that I'm a fan of 'old' technology too.

I honestly cannot remember calling you a dinosaur or an anachronism and I apologise if I ever did (unless I was joking of course, in which case, fuck you ya old git!).

'Results'?

I had 7 years of stuff to kill people, 25 of entertaining them, now 12 (so far) of stuff to stop people being killed.

I'm done with people misusing the word 'Staycation', I know it's not even a proper word and so I shouldn't care but holidaying in the country you live in is not a staycation, holidaying in the house you live in is FFS :angry-cussingblack:
