Cause the retail price goes up arbitrarily I'd guess. So long as Omega keep charging arbitrarily more for them - which they seem fond of - then second hand values will follow.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
They get replaced by newer, better versions. Newer, better isn't always what it's cracked up to be - see the comments about the new Speedmaster above.Wreckless Rat wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 2:23 pm I don’t get why mass produced “luxury” watches that are still made go up in value. The specials, really rare etc., I get. But why does a speedy etc. go up in value when you can still buy them?
Then there's availability. Rolex are well known for 'rationing' their popular models, so if you can get one its resale value will be more than Rolex' RRP.

You'll be regretting that when you need to spend an extended period in low gravity.
Well actually no you won't, 'cause NASA's own tests later showed automatics work just fine in space. Inertia doesn't dissapear. The Pogue was the final proof.
Good thing they had them mega expensive custom made pens though!

(Although I think that was apocryphal - you wouldn’t want broken bits of pencil lead floating around)

My comment may be less than serious.
Speaking of appreciating value though, my Fisher AG7s were about £20. They're £60 now! I wouldn't pay that for one I don't think.

I'm not a massive rose gold, or whatever gold Rolex call it, but I'd absolutely love a Daytona is that scheme.Potter wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 4:30 am I don’t regularly wear a watch to work anymore, I’ve been going on my bike a lot and I don’t like the way it pinched under my leather jacket and I just got used to not wearing one. But today I went in the car and this thread has given me a bit of renewed interest, so I dug something sporty out...

Sub dial hand colours are a cool touch.
Edit: Actually...what colours are the hands in general? I can't tell if they're white or bare metal or what.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
Is there any parallel where the watch gets thrown into the side of a car, or into walls and trees?

They're all steel. The hours, minutes and tachy hands have lume infill, the subdial hands are brushed and look black/grey at certain angles.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 1:39 pm Sub dial hand colours are a cool touch.

Have to admit, I really don't 'get' rose-gold, I don't know why.Potter wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 4:30 am I don’t regularly wear a watch to work anymore, I’ve been going on my bike a lot and I don’t like the way it pinched under my leather jacket and I just got used to not wearing one. I've recently been fortunate enough to become the custodian of my father's watch. The one he wore virtually daily as I was growing up, as such it's something that I fully intend to treasure and keep permanently (and wear as often as I can).

I fancied something a bit different to the sports stuff.
As usual pictures don't do any of it justice and a Patek really does wow you with the quality of everything, from the box, case, packing, watch, etc.
I have watches that are more expensive and ones that are more in demand, but none touch this in terms of finish and quality.

I know. I've examined one, even worn it for a couple of minutes. They're one of the best dress watches ever IMO. If I could justify (to myself) spending over 20k on a watch I'd have a white gold or platinum one ASAP.
Nice one, I'm actually envious

He’s right ya know Moff, You’re not spending money as such, you’re buying an asset. It’s pretty much like investing in the stock market. It may go down, it may go up, but I would bet that the PP would holds its value nicely. Your BB58 will do ok as well.
Even my little modest collection could probably be liquidated for more than I paid for it. I think my SMP Co-axial is worth about 1k more than I paid for it 4 years ago.
That said, a PP would still be too spendy for me.I’m not saying you should buy a watch as an investment, buy them for the love of the watch, the fact they don’t depreciate like a falling stone is just a nice side benefit.

Birthday pressie from the missus (Wolf winder).
I know there are mixed opinions on whether a good thing or not but in my mind a little bit of movement is better than sat in the box the majority of the time, I tend to wear either a Timex Expedition or a Huawei smartwatch as a daily these days....- Yorick
