I wouldn't call any of the first three (well, 2) 'cafe racers'!

I like that. The other two aren't bad either, but I'd happily own the Mule. Very tidy.Horse wrote: Sun Feb 28, 2021 4:52 pm A few from here:

What you you reckon the restoration would cost?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Mon Mar 01, 2021 4:49 pm Sadly, that Z1 might be worth buying, restoration won't be cheap, but it would get £20K restored, you'd need to be quick doing it though, because they're can't be that many fools left willing to pay stupid money for them.
Didn't know whether you'd spotted it was a 400, and I meant normally they sound like GSXR400sTricky wrote: Mon Mar 01, 2021 5:29 pm![]()
Der yeah, I know it is, and no it shouldn't, unless of course you put the wrapped 4 into 2 system and funny reverse cone megas on the gixxer - the fact is it didn't sound like a GSXR400, which, as I said above, is the only reason it got a mention ...
TBH it's very hard to say what it would cost to restore, you're going to want to rebuild the engine, that's £600 in labour if you don't want to do it yourself (they're actually easier than most two strokes) minimum parts cost is going to be £100 for consumables, but add another £800 for a rebore and pistons, same again if it needs a crank rebuild.Skub wrote: Mon Mar 01, 2021 5:15 pmWhat you you reckon the restoration would cost?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Mon Mar 01, 2021 4:49 pm Sadly, that Z1 might be worth buying, restoration won't be cheap, but it would get £20K restored, you'd need to be quick doing it though, because they're can't be that many fools left willing to pay stupid money for them.
It must be very easy to throw 10-12k at that,if it's being done right. Takes the cost petty close to doing it for very little even if it fetches 20k.

One of the directors was being shown around, saw the engine casings on a shelf, asked what they were, then could he have them?
Basically was told "Yes, but don't come back for help"
He had a frame built, EFI designed, brought over Gary Flood (I think) over from Oz to work on it - even built an extension on his house for a workshop.
But end result was, amongst others, winning Daytona BOTT.
No idea where it is now.
