Bike sounds you love.
Given we'll all be on whining milk float noted vehicles in the near future, let's hear some of your favourite engine noises before it's all too late.
For starters.
For starters.

NOT a horrible jangly old air cooled two stroke on standard pipes for starters, but there's nothing like a crisp, water cooled two stroke multi with a good set of expansion chambers, I'm talking YZR or NSR 500, nothing sounds quite like them, and nothing goes quite like them either.

Well, this ones from my youth.
Four cylinder four stroke aircooled with two valves per pot, wailing away in the distance. Maybe overlayed with a Curlews call and a Skylark twittering away above me on the fell.
That combination is kind of the soundtrack of my childhood.
Oh and the sound of my brother trying to kick his Triumph over before swearing at it in defeat.

A couple of the sounds that I really like, are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the sound of the Bonneville the first time I actually managed to kick it into life.
My previous experience of parallel twins had been limited to CB500s and the like, so I wasn't really expecting much exotic from the Triumph.
Oh how wrong I was! It sounds epic.

Nice idea for a thread - couple of sounds I love
Predictable perhaps
But there's still nothing as good as a well set up smoker in the power for me

Hear me out here, but if you ever go to a BHR meeting, there's an 80's GSX400 with orange Katana bodywork, out on track it sounds brilliant.
You'll have to take my word for it, I can't find a video.

Re: Bike sounds you love.
My favourite ever motorcycle sound is the Honda RC174 (297cc six cylinder) ridden by Mike Hailwood at the TT. Sad git that I am, I have a number of the original Stanley Schofield vinyl recordings of the TT. The Honda-6 just makes the hairs on your arms and the back of your neck stand up, even on a recording.
Every year in the 1980s I used to attend the TT for practice and Race week. It was a pilgrimage. One year we had exceptionally good weather during practice week and evening prctice went on until around 9 pm. Early in practice week I was stood at the dip in Union Mills when Charlie Williams on his 350cc Yam and Tony Rutter on his Ducati Pantah 600 came through together just as we were expecting the roads to open. They'd obviously squeezed a cheeky one in right at the end of practice on a clear track.
The evening was completely still, and for minutes we could hear the bikes heading into the distance; the scream of the Yam counterpointed by the booming bass of the Ducati, with alternating gear changes between the two. It must have been 2 to 3 minutes before they went out of earshot and nobody spoke a word during that time. Absolutely magical.
And bugger me if they didn't repeat the stunt later in the week when I was stood at Cruikshank's in Ramsey. You could hear them through Stella Maris, the hairpin, Waterworks, Tower Bends and Gooseneck at least. Another beautifully still evening with music supplied by a two man 2T and 4T orchestra.

There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Picture doesn't do it justice, it looks really cool in the flesh. I had to do a triple take before I realised it was only a 400.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 9:48 pmFuck that's an ugly bikeKungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 9:37 pm Hear me out here, but if you ever go to a BHR meeting, there's an 80's GSX400 with orange Katana bodywork, out on track it sounds brilliant.

It's flippin' fast too, most people think it's a proper 10/11 Kat.

Re: Bike sounds you love.
I remember liking the sound of the little electrical switch for the front brake lever on an old Honda. A satisfying little 'ping'.
