Quite like it, apart from the underseat exhaust. Why make a minimal rear end and then whack that sucker underneath?

Most of the bimmer conversions really work for me anyway tbh, but this one I think manages to make the modern front end work with the oe rear pretty well.

A vast amount of effort has gone into that - but I really don't like it

I am gonna say what I always say....I hate those exhausts made from loads of little bits welded together! Pipes look too small as well.

Love a flying brick though!

I'd have thought someone with your skills/knowledge would admire the level of detail in stuff like that.

Have you seen how teeny tiny the headers are on a stock K100, those are at least double the size.

Remember the stock K100 only made 85bhp on a good day.

The black and gold on the valve and crank covers looks good, the coils are going to get rather hot if they still sit in their original location.

The rear frame and seat kick up to follow the line of the fuel tank nicely which looks way better than a lot of these k100 customs with plank like seats.

Thumbs up from me, riding position looks like it would be crippling though.

Looks like the coils have been moved to sit where the original air box was below wher the AFM is now.

It amuses me that two of the uglier, most utilitarian, bikes that I owned (CX500 & K100) are now considered worthy of serious as the base bike for customisation.

The exhaust is interesting in another way. How often with these builds do they get commented on? "That silencer is too big" "Why under the seat" "Too hot".

Come the rise of electric bikes, what will be moaned about? :)

It just not possible to make an exhaust that looks worse than the original k’s.

Of the leccy bikes I've seen, it's funny how the lack of exhaust really jars (IME) - it's something we really expect to see and we want it to look nice.

I imagine big deal design issues on leccy bikes will be that they are all compromised by being so dependent on a massive oblong battery (that removes the combustion engine as a 'design feature') and that custom version of Oe electric bikes will be very niche for a long time, and probably retrofitting parts from older, more traditional bikes will be somewhat limited.

Our sister company used to make exhausts for F1 and the like....as high end as high end exhausts get. They weren't made of loads of little bits. Loads of little bits is what you do when you don't have the kit/skills (Edit: or time/money! ) to make really complicated shapes. Thats a generalisation of course, but mostly true.

I have no doubt its really fucking hard though.

Yep, loads of little bits of pipe welded together is what you do when you can't bend the pipes because you haven't got a pipe bender.

I actually quite like it - certainly a massive visual improvement on the original (which isn't saying a great deal, I grant you). It's finished to a very high standard and the paintwork is bang on - very classy. I know it was done for the aesthetics, but that single-sided swingarm/shaft drive doesn't look man enough for the job and would have the back end flexing. I know I'm in a minority but I'd much rather see a conventional double sided swingarm from the aesthetic PoV, not just the engineering aspect.

I always though the beemer K series were horrendously fugly bikes, but this effort makes a brick almost presentable.

7/10 3 points docked for the use of an ugly engine.

just a little too short at the rear end, but apart form that and the pipes being too small bore, I like it :)
