This is a really big-league operation. Sunra’s parent Jiangsu Xinri E-Vehicle, which was founded in 1999, is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation currently worth well in excess of half a billion quid. It has a quartet of factories churning out more than of four million units annually and exports to 70-plus countries worldwide.
On offer initially are a pair of Robo high-spec electric scooters. These feature conveniently removable lithium-ion batteries, full LED lighting, fingerprint keyless start, app connectivity, USB charger and 24 litres of under-seat storage.
The basic Robo has a restricted top speed of 28mph and 40-mile maximum range, essentially equivalent to the 50cc moped category. A Robo-S variant has an additional battery, which doesn’t compromise storage space. It is capable 50mph and a range of 84 miles.
Available in gloss white or gloss black colour options, the Robo and Robo-S are priced at £2,499 and £3,299 respectively, including the 20% government plug-in grant discount.
Selling points are certainly attractive. With zero emissions, zero road tax, zero congestion charge fees and a running cost per mile at just 15% of a petrol moped, the average city commuter can buy, run and maintain a Sunra Robo for less than an annual London Underground pass.
Sunra already has UK specification inventory on British soil and, to date, is supplying dealers covering most of London and an outlet in Aylesbury. The company has targeted recruitment of at least one additional dealer per month this year.
