My G-Shock keeps perfect time. It's connected to my phone by Bluetooth and synchronises four times a day. There's so much time information floating about in the ether* why would you have a watch that you need to correct manually?

I don't understand. You've "tweaked" a watch to run slow? Deliberately? That doesn't make sense..
He means its changed so it ticks less frequently but each tick is bigger. Most mechanical watches tick 5 or 6 items a second, but in theory you could tick pretty much any number of times a second.

Every time you tick you release the main spring a bit, fundamentally that's how a mechanical watch works. So if you design the watch to tick less often the mainspring will unwind more slowly and hence last longer. Theoretically it is potentially less accurate though.

The watch still keeps the correct tiem, it just ticks say 4 times a second rather than 5. It means changing some of the gears inside and is a permanent change.

Kinda like putting an overdrive box in the watch. Sorta.

You know...the most interesting thing I learned about timekeeping while logging my mechanical watch was about how phones keep time. :D Phone network time is really clever! Way smarter than just synching up with a time signal.

It runs at a slower beat rate to conserve energy. This can result in a sweep action that’s not quite as smooth as one that runs at a faster beat rate, but it’s not something that’s noticeable.

Think of two people walking, one moves slower with bigger strides, one moves faster with smaller strides, but both cover the same distance in the same time.

One of my g-shocks connects to a radio signal and keeps precise local time. Just as well really, have you tried to set a gshock! :wtf:

It’s solar powered, so if it’s been in its box for a while it goes in a power saving mode, when it sees the light the hands whizz round to the right time. Small things. 8-)

I had an Accurist that I bought in the 90's with analogue hands that did the same, it wasn't solar powered and you had to hit a button to make it come out of sleep mode, it also had a stop watch and other things that used the analogue hands and when you'd finished you pressed another button and the hands wizzed around to the right time. The battery probably lasted a lot less than it should because I never got tired of watching the hands wizz back to the right time after using another function, so I did it all the time.

Thats a coaxial with date etc, if you said Vanilla I would have thought you mean the manual wind. Wrong pic or wrong description?

TBH it took me a moment to notice it was the CoAx. I looked at it and thought "that doesn't seem right" but missed the bloody obvious text on the face. :D

I think it looks the business, sooner or later I'll be adding one as well, but the gossip online is of sharp edges on the case and bracelet not finished properly on the new ones - I wondered if Moff has tried one on, I haven't yet.

On a vaguely related note I do wonder why Omega put CGI renders and not real pics on their site.

Tried one last year when I bought the Tudor. I promised myself one this year.

It's bought from, and coming via, my local jeweller, not from a High Street chain. It will go to them, they'll give it the once over, complete the registration and forward it to me. Courier and insurance paid by them.

I don't know if it's the same one, I'm not really very well versed on Speedys, but FWIW, he starts talking about it at about 4 mins...

That video is about manual winds, moff is buying a coaxial (presumably). They're slightly different cases, the crown and buttons are more recessed on the manual for example, I imagine there are other differences too due to the different movements. I wouldn't be surprised if they're basically different watches with the same aesthetic but that's just based on external observation.

Right watch. Wrong assumption ;) I meant it's not a Moonwatch/DSotM/Heritage/other.

And yeah, it's the coax 3330. The new one has a 3861 (I checked).

I'd be pretty happy wearing that, but then I like white/panda faces.
Isn't that a limited edition?

I do like it, perhaps if I could chip him down a few quid I'd go for it - what he wants is it a bit too close to RRP but sure he'll move.
Yes, it is a limited edition...
