Sounds like Ms. Merkel is just being stereotypically German and straightforward to me? She says the vaccine is safe but she personally is not in the recommended group.

Not sure how that makes her spineless Harry? She's doing exactly what she is also telling the proles to do? If she did the opposite she'd be accused of "one rule for them" instead?

As to why its not recommended for over 65s in Germany...I'm sure we all have our theories for that

“All the authorities tell us that this vaccine can be trusted. As long as vaccines are as scarce as they are now, you cannot choose what to vaccinate with.”

French holidays started (not here yet) and half of the cities on holiday have come here on hols. Who'da thought we'd get new (to the area) variants??

The national education system informed us of the closure of two classes in the municipality:
- one class in La Côte d'Aime following a contact case
- a class at Macot La Plagne following a positive case
The closure of these classes was decided due to the detection of South African or Brazilian variants.
The national education system is taking more drastic measures than for a classic Covid because these two variants spread rapidly and are therefore highly contagious.
The commune of La Plagne Tarentaise informs you that only PCR tests are effective in detecting these two variants and can be carried out in the laboratories of Moutiers or Bourg Saint Maurice.
Other slots for screening with PCR tests have been opened from 27th February at the Salle des Fêtes in Aime, primarily for people affected by these class closures.

Covid variants are spreading in France, with the UK variant currently accounting for 36% of positive cases and the South African and Brazilian variants accounting for 5%, Health Minister Olivier Véran said in a press conference on February 18.

Now all the police and teachers hate him too and won't vote for him (any many not for the Tories for some time) but it doesn't matter, he doesn't need a second term. He's playing the game extremely well.

E.g. I think he honestly believed that he didn't want to be a politician (when he explicitly said he never would), then he found the door open and stuck his head in.

And if you can be arsed to respond then I don't see how he can be "playing the game extremely well" if everyone hates him and the end result is that no one will vote Tory ever again? He could have stayed away from politics and made lots of money somewhere else, but he chose politics (after saying he wouldn't), so I propose that he'd be gutted if he exited like Brown (i.e. hated).

I've always thought he was intelligent enough to be scary! He cannot be as stupid as he seems??

Equally, I've met some really stupid people with high IQs, so where does intelligence/stupid start/stop when the person can't or won't use it?

i was playing in the woods 'near' 7 other people today.. but depends on what you class as 'near' and what sort of risk you see that as.

We were distancing, but you can bet people would have frowned upon us.

We don't have the same restrictions as you (at the moment) but the people I do meet with are pretty much in a bubble. I'm about the only one that "socialises" (not the right word for this winter!) with anyone French. I guess the most risky I get is going to a shop or that I see a physio 3 times a week. and anytime I'm talking to anyone French I'm masked up as are they

In shops or in any area with other people we all wear masks (unless drinking or eating) and none of us get close enough to touch.

So, even though a few of us are meeting tomorrow to celebrate a big birthday for one of our 'bubble', we still won't get close. We won't have masks all the time because there will be cake and beer. But we do food out on the piste sometimes anyway and behave the same way

We all avoid the busy areas. To the point that if anyone goes out to ski tour or just walk, they/we go either really early or to areas not popular because, right now, the 'normal' walks are too full of tourists. Sadly we can't go out late because we are under curfew so everyone is supposed to be indoors by 18:00
