No, for uptake to work, it has to work for people. Just saying "you will have to" won't wash.

As I've said loads of times, I think it's the people who will change more than the cars. When it costs twice as much to own a petrol car over a battery one people will suddenly discover that they don't need to be able travel 500 miles at the drop of a hat. Something which they've probably never done even when they owned a petrol car.

There will always be outliers, but they'll remain exactly that.

Refining is less than 2p a litre. So, yes, in essence you pump it straight from the ground. The cost of finding it, drilling it and getting to the refinery is way less than the tax on it, something like 40p a litre. The rest is duty and tax... or as it should be called. A tax and another tax... so great they even tax the tax.

However, using 'off peak' wind generated (or wave, tidal, etc) to create hydrogen, which can be stored and provided quickly at fuel stations to hybrids gets around a lot of objections.

Didn't they look at battery stations, where a nearly empty is swapped for a full one. ? Bit like bbq gas bottles. You don't keep the same battery. Think this would have made good sense, having universal batteries for similar cars, in and out in minute's. Stations in every town. Manufacturers working together.

This poses more questions than it gives answers tbh, by the very nature of people getting home from work pretty much all together. Then the logistics of those who want their car to piss off now, vs those who plan to go out tonight, vs those who just got home and now realise they need to go back to work or to pick their kid up from the station etc etc etc.

I can’t see this “waiting for your car to come back” will ever be popular enough. Yeah yeah you’ll cry “tough that’s how it’s going to be”, I disagree. The car is so popular because it’s there when you need it, not 30mins or 4hrs charging time away.

People already pay a premium to have a car there ready when they want it...if it wasn’t one of the main driving forces, rent a car by the hour would already be a thing, and it isn’t apart from those who live in cities and are happy to use taxis.
