GIXXER FIX: A GSX-R1100 WITH DUCATI SUPERBIKE SUSPENSION

Post by weeksy »

As i plough my way through the Bike Exif site i'm finding it increasingly harder to come up with bikes i like, but also with ones i think are worthy of discussion, today i almost went for an ER6, but decided on this one.

It's nicely built, but old 1100s with grafted on springy bits isn't exactly new.

It's still a handsome bike though.

First off, I'm not a fan of Slingshot GSXR11s, they're one of the few standard road bikes I've ridden that felt like it wanted to kill you if you didn't concentrate 100%, the engine in them felt amazingly powerful 30 years ago, I think they're about 140bhp standard, the chassis isn't great, though it's very hard to say why as everything was good quality and the frame didn't flex.

Second, I don't like single sided swingarms, I don't like the way they look and unless you're in a hurry to change rear wheels, they're inferior to conventional swingarms.

Third, the seat is fucking stupid

A well executed build, looks quite useable.

I'm a fan of the 4-2 exhaust,helps the symmetry.

The side bits on the seat are a bit strange, but I could live with it.

Yeah, junk the clipons and fit a set of flat/higher bars and I'd buy that.

I always preferred the Slabsides, even on the standard 18 inchers.

Only a very good oil cooler would be 140 bhp, they were mostly around 125, but every one is different.

The G and H were nice bikes, the Slingys always felt really fast but like they'd try to kill you if you relaxed for a second, they had amazing throttle response, possibly a bit too responsive.

I preferred the 750s, the power felt a lot more controllable, but the real gem was the 400, on a twisty road they were quicker than the 750 or the 1100

The seat looks like they accidentally fitted one at 3/4 scale.

The whole bike looks and feels like that in comparison with the 750 and 1100, and works much better for it, I suppose if you were 25% bigger than me then the 750 and 1100 might work, so you'd have to be 7ft tall for that.

I like it, it's mean AF and it looks fast while standing still.
Despite my dislike of IL4s, I'd give it a go.

It's ok, not great.
The seat just looks wrong and pod filters? Naaah.

Maybe 7/10?
