Re: Uk Media
I watch GMTV at 6:55 for 10 minutes. I get to see the weather forecast and Suzanna Reid's tits while I have my morning brew.
For proper news I listen to R4 and The World Service, I rarely get a chance to watch TV with 3 young kids.

Re: Uk Media
It is interesting to note that we in the UK have been given a preview of what we can expect to happen "over here" in that, over the pond, news channels and alternative social medias are popping up all over the place faster than big tech can delete them (almost). Unless it's just my feed, in the UK there are a lot of "robot" websites, scouring news sites and presenting press releases on automated YouTube channels.Kneerly Down wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 6:43 pm GB News is launching shortly, apparently.

Similarly, some politicians (Queen Sturgeon in particular) are seeing some of the same shenanigans as an opportunity to increase their "support". They are promoting the adoption of postal votes as a good way forward for the UK. Err, yeah right. What could possibly go wrong?
In this new global environment, it is difficult to know exactly where your news is coming from. Bit like trying to avoid a Chinese seller on eBay.

I get all my news updates from Anchorman and occasionally, Anchorman 2.
Also, I don’t watch the news. Apple news provide a daily update and I read that occasionally.

Re: Uk Media
I’m surprised you’re surprised.
The media has always been biased, the paper you read always indicated your political slant.
You pays your money and you take your choice.
FWIW, I don’t think the BBC is a biased as is sometimes made out.

Re: Uk Media
LA Times frequently publishes propaganda (pretty much word for word) from the Chinese Communist Party as *news*.. & one of the LA TV stations (KTLA, more like KKKTLA) sources about 75% of *their* news reports straight from the LA Times.
If KKKTLA can do something to cause racial/political discord & division while blindly following the DNC party line, they absolutely will air it. Their *go-to* politician for comments is Adam Schiff who couldn't possibly have less credibility if he went to college & studied how to be less credible & they act like Garcia & McCarthy don't exist, even thought those congressmen represent far larger districts in the area.

WTF is wrong with postal votes? I have used a postal vote for years.

What I was going to say (but lost interest) was the increased use of key words and key phrases. Something else La Sturgeon has picked up. Using Scottish words and phrases provocatively to engender the notion that Scotland is a foreign country. She is also facing backlash over her misuse of "Covid briefings" to basically promote herself and give her cause airtime.
Must admit, I do like her presentation style, her calm measured tone of voice. The only thing I don't like about her is everything she says and everything she stands for. I am surprised the first minister is allowed to have so much valuable free publicity on UK mainstream media. It is an extraordinarily powerful medium especially during these extraordinary times when so many of us are in lockdown.

Re: Uk Media
Slightly off the wall start but...
On this evening’s C4 News they interviewed some lovely children to get their views on the present lockdown situation. They ended the segment by asking a little girl what she would like to be when she grows up. She replied: “Probably dress up as a tree”.
I’m still chuckling even now. It certainly gave the C4 staff a good laugh.
To the more serious stuff. Ever since the advent of 24/7 media much of the news and other programming has gone down the drain. When you have so many hours to fill the consequence is that quality gets diluted. In addition, there are too many ‘opinionators’ on mainstream television and radio. In the past, it was mainly restricted to the more serious programmes. Social Media and the proliferation of various other media has also degraded the quality.
I think one has to be very selective if one just wants up to date news without all the other dross. Whatever yours is, my ‘go to’ is Reuter’s and AP. Other than these two, Twitter feeds from reliable sources.

Re: Uk Media
I'm not a right big fan of BBC1 news but Radio 4s news is still pretty good, also I watch Ch4s news.
My issue with BBC 1 is its a bit low on detail and high on drama.
I'm not sure I would say its either left or right leaning, just that Chanel 4s news seems to be much better at pinning the politicians (of any side) down and getting them to answer questions accurately instead of just allowing them to bluster and waffle through the party line.

Re: Uk Media
Andie is asserting that there is 100% correlation between people who sneer at media studies courses and people who perceive the media to be biased. i.e. those unwilling to be educated in a subject are often the loudest voices complaining about said subject. I think.....

All that says to me is those who have done the “media studies” courses have been ‘correctly aligned’.

Or that the kind of people who chose to do media studies naturally think like the media anyway. Who's to say. I see where andie is coming from but it's impossible to tell.
