Damon Hypersport - electric bike trend continues.

Post by Mr. Dazzle »

200mph, 200 mile range (300 in the city) and 200bhp.

Image

Gonna be about £25k for that spec. A 150mph/150mile range one is gonna be about £15k. Hopefully they will launch a supernaked version.

The future looks bright IMO.

The front looks a bit "beaky"

Surely the range depends on how you use it, top speed is a bit irrelevant as a spec with electric bikes because it comes down to how much power you can put into the motor and the aerodynamics, I'm more interested in range and recharge time for a road bike, for a track bike this would be less relevant, as you could have 7 batteries that each last 20 minutes of flat out riding (one for each session)

That has been true of bikes since they started putting engines in them :D

That's why we have things like the NEDC and now the WLTP tests so that range is tested against a 'common drive'.

Generally now they quote a highway and a city range, for all kinds of vehicles. Hence the 200 and 300 mile values above.

They're just the standardised drive you use to get your official mpg/range figures. New European Drive Cycle and Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (missing a few letters in the abbreviation!).

The latter replaced the former and as the name suggests is a global standard. They just ensure you're always comparing like for like when you talk about mpg etc. Unless you fit cheat devices ;)

I want that Supermoto we saw in the interesting bike thread, but with a greater range. That'll do me nicely when the time comes to go full electric.

This one above, that's about spot on for Mrs Weeksy :)

Thinking a little more about this bike...

It is cheaper than the top spec Ducati, which is the sort of thing it's competing with.
It is faster than the fastest bike on the market (I think?)
It is longer range than almost anything other than things like GSs with long range tanks.

Obviously it takes an hour to charge it up, but still....that's pretty encouraging!

We really need to see one of these/others out in the real world though before they'll sell, out on tracks, trips, tours, adventures.... Until then, it's just guesswork. I'm not against the idea, but i'd want to know how they feel and ride before getting onboard.

An hour to charge up is not too bad, you could ride 200 miles in the morning, have lunch and then do 200 miles in the afternoon.
Give it a supermoto seat and it would only need a 60 mile range :D

Their website is somewhat quiet on that matter. So probably quite a lot :D

The pricing gives some indication as to how battery bikes will work in coming years. Its $35k for a 200bhp one which can go 200 miles, but $17k for a 100bhp which can go 100 miles. I expect nearly all the difference is battery. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're all otherwise the same.

I would anticipate seeing more of this sort of thing in future.

I believe the Moto E racers weigh around 260kgs and they would probably be cutting edge machines,so the road bike is probably not lighter than that.

That's like me carrying three 20kg bags of cement on my bike.

I agree it looks well,tho.

I like the idea of adjustable controls, but why make them powered?? That just adds cost, weight, and complexity totally unnecessarily.

Good to see the tech coming along though. (well - obviously these are currently vapourware, but the promises are improving).

They're claiming 200kg, which would be almost incredible in the literal sense of the word.

Seriously impressive if they pull it off though!

Saw my first live electric bike in the wild a couple of days ago.

No idea of the make, small (125cc size), and looked pretty conventional apart from the silence. In a 30mph village so it was just trickling along.

Don't you worry about all that what it weighs bollocks, you worry about the textured insect protein you're going to have to eat!
