Re: Bye bye BBC
Given the fact that the BBC (along with most of the rest) are just re-cycling old programmes, I have a mind to write and ask if they can just re--cycle last years licence fee too.

Indeed. A good example of that is what they call news. If you watch it at 6pm then again at 10, more than likely it will be many of the same stories repeated.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 10:36 pm Given the fact that the BBC (along with most of the rest) are just re-cycling old programmes, I have a mind to write and ask if they can just re--cycle last years licence fee too.

Re: Bye bye BBC
It is much more than than that.
The studio newsreader tells you the 'headlines'
The studio newsreader then tells you the 'detail' with a lot more words and little or no extra information.
They then switch to X at Y who repeats the same information but with different words
Then the studio newsreader repeats the headlines
AND (if you are lucky)
The local news picks up the same story, or at least the local element of it, and you get told all that again, but by a different face and with the local element highlighted.
And BTW, have you ever noticed that there is far less news at weekends. No sir, stuff just doesn't happen at weekends, And stories don't change, if it happened in time for the 1:00pm News the same script will do for 6:00pm and 10:00pm.

Indeed. I wondered how I would "get away with it" but truth be told, the TV which used to be the centre of my evening entertainment is still dark. I don't watch it. I keep R4 on in the background and all the major channels upload content to various content delivery services which you are allowed to watch without paying a license fee.
I spunked my rebate on a MASSIVE shop at Morrissons which might even see me out to the end of this lockdown. Frozen veg nuked in the microwave is arguably more nutrient rich than fresh veg anyway.
I am currently being bombarded with letters from the licensing authority which I use as firelighters. A year or two from now the license fee will be gone and the BBC will then have to deliver content commensurate with the prevailing political climate in the UK or it will die.

IIRC you can watch TV as long as its not live content or BBC.
You can watch Netflix, Amazon, channel 4 catch up yada yada. Just not live or BBC.

From my perspective they have become a LBGTQ+-?* platform. You have it rammed down your throat (apologies for the pun and pain it may cause) and are called phobic if you don't agree with it.
News is now about pandering to what is deemed "attractive" or "interesting". It has little to do with facts.
My father used to see some of the "Royals" walking in the park near his house in Inverness, walking their dogs as people do, and nothing was made of it. People got on with there lives. Nowadays it would be "Queen Walks beloved ancient Corgi in historic cemetery with adoring populace gazing on in drugged stupour."

I am reminded of the (very) old joke.
An 80 year old was emigrating. Asked why he explained
"Once upon a time being a homosexual was a hanging offence.
Then it was reduced to transportation
Then it was 20 years in jail
Then reduced to a year or so, or a fine.
Then it was decriminalised
I'm off before it becomes compulsory!"
Not very PC, and I have no issue with LBGQT people, I just wish they would stop being so strident. They are a minority, if they ever become the majority the human race is fucked

Not even very funny. Maybe they feel the need to be strident after so many years of oppression, lessening as time goes by.
Granted, if the first thing that someone mentions is their sexuality they're as dull as any other lifestyle obsessive, be that a vegan, gym bunny, biker, religious or shorts wearer. Other lifestyle obsessives are available, you'll know when you meet one.

There's a series of scifi novels, I think it's The Forever War, in which homosexuality is the norm for that reason. The main protagonist is someone who was frozen/suspended/otherwise out of time with everyone else who is hetero and is viewed with suspicion because of it.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:29 amMight solve the world's over population issueCousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:17 am They are a minority, if they ever become the majority the human race is fucked
Been ages since I read it though so can't remember the details.

I've also read it, aren't the main characters a man and a woman who due to space travel end up being alive for thousands of years and humanity changes from hetero to homo in that timeMr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 11:10 amThere's a series of scifi novels, I think it's The Forever War in which homosexuality is the norm for that reason. I read at least an hour every week day during lunch, there's not much else to do, I could walk to the beach but it gets a bit samey.
I read lots of different books, my Kindle Unlimited subscription is good value for money

The difference is that it is already ILLEGAL to discriminate. They have won the war, so please stop trying to start a new battle.DefTrap wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 11:53 amThis is what they said whenCousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:17 am They are a minority, if they ever become the majority the human race is fucked

Mmm, criticising an organisation for trying to be trendy and inclusive is a bit rich coming from a C of E vicar!the_priest wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:56 am From my perspective they have become a LBGTQ+-?* platform. Some of us care more about truth than being trendy. Inclusive we are, but that comes with an understanding that if you chose to live by Scripture, you cannot throw out the bits you don't like.
Proverbs 17:9
One who forgives an affront fosters friendship, but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend.
