I gave it's looks a good slating on that thread, the pictures didn't do it justice, it looks a lot better in real life.

I'm not interested in making money out of motorcycles, I'd rather sell it for a little more than I paid for it than have someone come round expecting a mint bike.

I'd rather sell everything I bought for a little bit more than I paid, but invariably I sell it for a bit less because I can't be arsed haggling.

I usually lost 2 grand on all my Suzukis over 2 years. Not a lot to get a brand new bike with warranty to thrash it on track for 2 years

I've had the FZ 4 years, so loosing £750 on it seems pretty good by comparison.

I feel your pain. Never spent more than £5k on a bike. Was in the position to buy a new bike last year, budget was £10k. Ended up spending less than half of that. I think I bought the wrong bike too. Not complaining, some problems are nice to have.

Most I've ever spent on a bike is £5.7K in 2000 on a two year old R1, and I really, really wanted that bike
I also sold BT shares to buy it, I sold them at the peak price they went to, two weeks later the shares would have been worth a third of what I got for them.

I bought a brand new R6 in 1999 for £6k. Most I've ever spent on a bike for me.

I did buy the wife a brand new BMW F700GS Rally LS a few years back witch was nearer £8k (and still only has 666 miles on it).

I'm working from home today, at lunch time I might wander the 400yds to the Triumph dealers and have a look through the window at it.
I've decided to keep the FZ, though I might have to rearrange the contents of a shed to find storage for it, it can be another project bike

What did he think?

He liked it, said it went well, handled well and stopped well. Suspension is hard/budget but think he weighs a lot so that won't help. He said the build quality was very good.

Must admit it looks better on video that pics.

Popped round the Triumph dealers at lunch time and had a gawp through the window (they're closed)
It looks like a well made bike, it doesn't look cheap like the SV650, and looks better made than the XSR or Z650, certainly Honda build quality, apart from that I'm not 100% on the looks, the tail is a bit short and the tank a bit humpy.
When they're open I'll have a better look, but I'd have one over any of the bikes it's meant to compete with (SV, XSR, MT07, CB600, Z650), whether I want one enough to buy one is another matter, as I'm not sure, but it would be nice to have a bike that isn't a constant fight with minor things wearing out.

From the look of things £500 more than the SV, £300 less than the Yamahas, I can't quickly find list prices for the Honda and Kawasaki, I'm surprised the SV is that much, because when I looked them I thought they looked and felt cheap, I've only looked closely at the XSR as well, and that looks cheap because of it's unfinished look.

TBH the Honda and Kawasaki where never in the running for me because of their styling, and the same goes for the MT07.

Looking at pictures it comes down to a choice between the Triumph and the SV, the overall shape of the SV is nicer, but in real life they're physically a bit small for me and the finish is poor, so if I buy a new bike this year it will be the Triumph
