Middle age quandary?
Middle age quandary?
Hi,thank you for letting me join the forum .Been lurking for a while
At nearly 54 yrs old I,m after another sports bike and feel if I leave things much longer I,ll have missed the boat.
My wife says better regret something you have done rather than something you did not do. .So I could buy a new gsxrr thou or the alternative is a ducati 1299s on a 16 plate. The last v-twin I had was a Honda sp1 .Currently ride a zx10r c1h and an 09 fire blade.
The head says Suzuki but the heart ducati.I think sometimes we need to throw caution to the wind and say f--k it .Cheers

Re: Middle age quandary?
If you want a race rep then buy the 1299, IMHO that's about the best looking and it'll feel a lot more special than a GSXR.

Re: Middle age quandary?
This in spades. Without being too harsh to what's a great bike, no-one is ever going to walk into the garage, pull the soft dust cover off the bike and think "wow, that's awesome that GSXR".... Ducatis bring something to the table that Japanese bikes cannot, maybe not all Ducatis, like a 696 monster or a 800 Scrambler, but the big boy superbikes, they bring a WOW factor that very very few (if any) other bikes are able to bring to the public.
That's without even taking into account how it rides and will make you feel riding it.
Ducati all day... and twice on Wednesdays.

It’s a bike, it’s meant to stir the the soul a little. Buy what blows your skirt up. If it doesn’t work out you can always move it on and the itch will have been scratched.
Welcome btw.

Buy what your heart says not your head.
BTW I'd never buy a Ducati, I don't like them

Re: Middle age quandary?
I had a 1299 on my driveway yesterday. It's twice the price but not twice the bike.
He's 15 years younger than me and is often surprised when we ride the fast stuff on the other islands.
And they're no faster on track. In 2019 the GSXR was the British Superstock winner.

It's absolutely nothing to do with which is faster. It's which stirs your emotions and i'm sorry to say, you're very much in the minority of bikers who'd rather have a GSXR over a 1299. It would be a very small list that's for sure.

Re: Middle age quandary?
That's just it. I'm not swayed by the press reports and the big price tag. I buy exactly what I want and love it. I smile every time I walk in the garage. The missus is the same.
And his 1299 sounds shite.
Re: Middle age quandary?
tbh.....……..the only way to buy a bike is with your heart ! as that's what biking is about ! the passion the fun the desire it creates and that is what u will get if you u buy with your heart...…………………….

I have absolutely no doubt you love it... But i also have no doubt you're quite in the minority with that.
I expect it's a wonderful machine... If you like IL4s and sportsbikes

Re: Middle age quandary?
I do get pissed off sometimes as there is definitely bike snobbery.
Oh, it's only a Japanese 4 cylinder. How quaint.
I can easily afford a brand new V4 but I don't fucking want one
