Heated grips - wiring blocks burnt

Post by formula400 »

Right finally getting round to sorting my heated grips out on my 2013 street triple R, I've had the bike for 2.5 years, they have worked up until I had the handle bars replaced after being bent and then at some point stopped working, they look like water has got in and they have burnt, well that's what I think, but quite clueless.

So my question is how do I go about replacing them, do I look for more of the same connectors, if so what kind are they, or can they be replaced with someting like this https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/electrical/ ... hnEALw_wcB

or shall I go with these https://falconerelectronics.com/types-o ... terminals/

or this type

It'll likely be a very tedious job searching for them. Are they aftermarket grips or OEM?

OEM, do they HAVE to be the same as what they are?

Sorry, I was interrupted, that^ sounds terser than it was.

They don't have to be identical if you are replacing both, but if you can find the correct connector you can ease the pins out and slide them into the new connector and not have to cut any wiring. Pin size and shape, and receptacle shape are important bits to loom for.

They're one of those tools that once you've used one you'll wonder why you didn't buy them years ago. The beat poking about with tiny screwdrivers.

So, replaced the burnt connectors, still no joy, so after some more research and being told to check the wires inside the grips because I have aftermarket bar ends I removed them and check to find this. Apparently it is from when the bolt goes in it catches the wire and pulls it off, gutted, so 2 options, try and find another set of triumph ones (£100) Fowler’s say they are discontinued and can’t find the same ones used on eBay in the uk. So the sensible option is to remove all the wiring and go back to normal grips. Plus bonus is that’s only going to cost £20 or so.
