The Dukes Pass.

My mate posted his mcn through the door last night, reading through and someone went up towards Fort William via the dukes pass. Never heard of it. I've been up twice and kept to the 82 on both occasions. West Side of Loch Lomond can be a bit 4 wheel busy, so this eastern route sounds more worthy.

Any thoughts.???

I’ve done it quite a few times now, once with Adam of this parish iirc.

My normal way to get up there is to head to Ayr, hug the coast up to Gourock, ferry to Dunoon then you have the choice of Inveraray, oban and then to FW that way.

Never 'erd of it. I've spent five minutes visiting it virtually on Street View and it looks great. I may have done it without knowing, but next time I'm in the vicinity I will be sure not to miss it out.

I've used the A82. The bit alongside Loch Lomond is a PITA in summer. This may be worth trying, although the ferry to Dunoon was also on my radar.

Yup that basically- lovely section of road on a bike , just top fun, we've done it on the last two Highlands trips, was empty of any other traffic, and dry both times.
Definitely worth a little detour IMO

My preferred route is A82 to Tarbet, then the A83 through the forest of Argyll to Inveraray then take the right turn onto the A189 to pick up the A85 then back down to Tyndrum. Lovely roads, awesome scenery and not much traffic after Tarbet. The A189 is one of my favourite stretches of road.

The other bit of road well worth making a detour for if you're up that way is the B863 which runs from Glencow to Ballachulish, via Kinlochleven. It's a road in three dimensions with fantastic views.

Stayed at Macdonalds cabins in Kinlochleven 2 years ago. First night digs in cabins and an excellent stay it was, with pub serving meals and breakfast on site. On that road I had two deer run across in front on me, shat myself. I was lucky. But ye, great road but steady goes.

That has the potential to happen on most roads in Scotland, or North Yorkshire, or Cumbria.

The amount of deer strikes each year is staggering.
