Re: I bought a Ducati! Get in
My brother had this one and as I said I was well jealous. He wouldn't let me play with it cause I was "too little".

But I'm the Engineer now and he works in IT like a proper loser. Ha!

Fucking IT wankers.
You got me looking now, this was my first ever lego set!

IIRC my mum bought me it from Boots.

I don't care personally if it's real or fake Lego myself, but we are rapidly running out of space for items.... So much so that the Ducati and the Chevvy we built wil be ending up in the garage i expect.

I got this when I was about 8 or 9.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:42 pm This is the set I got for Christmas in 1993...I think I still have most of it in my parents' loft. The little differential (proper job just like you get in a car) was a right twat to get together I remember.

Working 4-cylinder boxer, 3 speed gearbox (inc reverse), diff, suspension.
Built the entire thing xmas day afternoon only have Dad ruin it by covering the 'bores' with 3-in-1 oil when the engine proved a little 'stiff'.
(I figured out after a much closer perusal of the instructions later, that I'd made up the crank-shaft incorrectly).

We (3 brothers) had MASSES of space lego, IIRC one of us got the monorail moonbase set one year.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 9:17 pm I had him. It was in an articulated space radar truck thing.

I like it. The kids bought me the Apollo 11/Saturn V kit a few years and I got a bit hooked.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 4:07 pm I really dislike the modern Lego Technic, I say that as someone who both loves Lego and loved playing with Technic as a kid - I've still got my old sets. In fact I lucked in marrying someone half Danish, I now have family who work at Lego
Old Lego Technic was the same as 'normal' Lego but with holes in the middle and little gears etc. The new stuff has loads of 'unique pieces' that only fit that particular model, meaning it's neither Lego nor a very good model!
Shame really, 'cause I'm exactly the sort of nerdy techy person who'd buy a £350 kit otherwise.
My favourite so far has been the LR Defender. I've managed to resist the bugatti and lambo so far though.
With being limited production runs the stuff doesn't lose it's value. There was a Lego Osprey kit released last year, which was about £100. Lego then withdrew it as they didn't realise it was also a military plane (lego don't do military stuff). They are now changing hands for silly money, although the price below is a bit optimistic.

I had a space shuttle set, I can't find the exact one but it was part of the Lego space range.
The first one I can recall the specific of was this one. It had magnets and everything.

I think its fair to say childhood lego had a large influence on my life!

Re: I bought a Ducati! Get in
My first Lego set was an articulated milk tanker in about 1972, I can't find any pictures of it, but it was blue and white.
My children have a lot of Lego, sadly being teenagers they're no longer interested in it.

I thought I was looking at another Lego Ducati, but it turns out it's actually the 2021 GP bike...

646 bits....barely even getting started.
My Dad has the Saturn V rocket, that has 1969 bits. I think the Death Star is over 3000.
