Michelin Pilot Power vs Michelin Pilot Power 3
So what's the difference between these tyres apart from £34 to buy
They're going to be used on my FZR400RR track bike, so that's 60bhp (optimistic) at 15,000 rpm and sod all mid range.

are the 3's not dual compound and the powers single compound ?

I had pilot power 2cts on a 5vy R1, and a 790 duke. Had loads more grip than I could use on the road. And in the wet/cold they didn't do anything silly either. I'll probably stick a set on my Gsxr when it needs some new ones too.

I ran 2CTs on my ZX10R. A great tyre,never gave me a moment,road or track and kept a decent profile right up until they were done.

Simply that things develop and improve. It's similar to when I see people buying older versions of the Pilot Road. Why not get the best variant you can?

I've used 2CTs on my MV, Dorsoduro, and R1. They'll be going on my Monster shortly, even though they're old technology they're still better than me.

Because the old version is £34 cheaper, why spend money I don't need to, the bike is only used on track so dual compounds are a bit of a waste of time on itscottyuk wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:56 pmSimply that things develop and improve. They are called 2CT if they're dual compound. You can get single compound Pilot Powers. I had a Pilot Power put on the back inadvertently once. It would start to slide coming out of hairpins when a Pilot Power 2CT wouldn't.

Personally for 34 quid I'd get the 3s. They will probably last longer and grip a little better. Think they are a 10 to 15 year newer tyre tech.
If it was 50-100 quid dearer then yeah go for the originals
For the 690 (no track) I was gonna stick with PR4s but the 5s were 20 quid more and will last me for 2 years so worth it if they last a fraction longer, grip marginally better
