Sometimes the demise of a Supermoto saddens me... So thought i'd post this. I still think if you had 3-4 mate with the same attitude it would be absolutely awesome to blat around the back lanes, the sad reality is though they're quite incompatible with some other bikes a lot of the time and quite focused.

They're massive fun on small roads for about 20 minutes, after that they're very tiresome.

That's where i live though, i can easily find roads where it's physically impossible to do 100mph. Many roads, lots and lots... But not everyone wants to ride them with me :D

Where I live is similar, and when my children were little I could only find short periods of time to ride, once they needed less attention and I could find whole days to for a ride my Husky became very tedious after an hour of riding, mostly due to how massively uncomfortable it was and how aggressive you had to ride it to make it work.

One of the Yamaha 660s would have worked better as they're a softer option, but the same could be said of a CB500

I still want Yamaha to make a new XT660X.... Sadly i don't think there's going to be one. But i'd love the Japanese to build a sensibly priced pseudo-moto.

Interesting colour scheme for the wheels compared to the rest of it :wtf:

Converted competition bikes are to focused for me these days but there certainly fun to ride.

The Honda FMX 650 should have worked really well, but it was so under powered it was embarrassing, the DRZ I had was really good, but the seat was a bit narrow for all day riding.
The XT660X is too tall and wide for my short legs, I'd like to try the Aprillia Pegaso

the DRZ i can absolutely 'get' as an idea... But i've never had the impression the owners thought they were particularly great.

I suspect it depends on what you were expecting, I bought mine in spring 2000 and I got exactly what I expected, a water cooled electric start 400cc Japanese trail bike, it was like an XR400 with leccy start, more power and Suzuki dirt bike handling (stability over nimbleness), it was reliable but a bit heavy, if you were expecting a bike like a KTM or Husqvarna 450 you were going to be very disappointed.

I had my 300exc done up like that with Talon wheels (gold hubs, black rims, etc) but it wasn't very nice on the road.

If I wasn't such a midget I'd be very tempted by one of these...

I think that's where I am with them. On the right road for 20 minutes they are a hoot.

If I go out on the bike it tends to be all day and 200 miles plus. That would kill me.
