what would you choose and why?

I am tempted by both.

The tracer 900gt edition gets the added bonus of cruise, which I think will be a godsend on all the London roads I do, with the average speed checks.

The vstrom cheaper in every way and its seems universally loved. No cruise though.

Why change - because of my backache issues with the 790 duke and wanting something more upgrght with more legroom as well. To be honest I dont know if either will work, but they seem close to a 390 Adv position and I got very little backache on the 390 (well just a tinge after 4 hours of winter hooning around.)

The Tracer because the Vstrom has a crap image
But surely the vstrom is competing with the Yamaha 700 rather than the 900

Vstrom is an awkward phrase to roll off the tongue,it's a bit dyslexic,so I'd pick the Tracer because it's much easier to say. :thumbup:

Unfortunately the tracer 700 did nothing to alleviate my backache and if the Tracer 9 is similar I have buggered

What about picking the bike you like and making it fit? Stock bikes are a catch all and some of us need/prefer slight differences in riding position.

Not really a straight comparison is it? I mean the 900 is a class/budget above. More competing with the 1000 V-Strom.

If the Tracer 7 gives you back ache then I'd try anything before you buy.

Surely a Trumpet Tiger is in the mix then? Guzzi 85? Versys 650/1000? Possibly even a Z1000SX and GSXS (F?) 1000, although that is a fuggly bike!

Tracer GT simply because its more suited to my needs with what i want from a bike. More power than the 650, looks more comfortable and probably deal with longer days in the saddle easier. Plus i know they can be hustled about as dodgy Knees showed at Pembrey ;)

I haven't ridden the Tracer.

I did ride the 650 V Strom years ago. It was really good, more than the sum of its parts if that makes sense. Ugly though. I had the original V Strom 1000 and thought the 650 was better.

You'd seriously use cruise control in London? I'll admit I've never tried it on a bike, but if it works like my car I wouldn't do it. Too many speed changes.

Also, do you need a 900cc, 115 bhp bike for 20/30 limits? If you're really choosing the bike for your out of town rides, fine. Otherwise, 650 or...electrically assisted bicycle.

I’d try the tracer it’s an odd riding position for me, it’s almost like your hips are too far forward very weird tbh. Seat also seems to slope down which doesn’t help with the hips forward bit.

On the A40, A406, M25 it can get quire irritating. Most of the time the bike will be used for fun, but its getting to the fun bits when trawling through those roads that I find tough.

Consider a standard tracer 2018 > Heated grips and job done. Seat does slope forward a bit but no biggy. Very upright but with a sporty edge. Light for pushing about. Centre stand very handy. Don't need CC. No QS on standard 🤷🏻‍♂️ 200 mile range and plenty of go.
I honestly don't understand HP. Its about 115. I've had bikes with plenty more, but in the 0 > 120 range, there's little difference in my experience. 👍

Living as I do in a central London borough (Wandsworth), I know what you mean :cry:

Coming back to the bike choice, of course it's what you fancy that matters, at the end of the day. Presumably you've considered the other middle weight options?

Yes and nailed it to these. Not sure I am ready for a nc750 just yet and don't like the looks of the Kawasaki

I got a few hours in on a V-Strom some years ago, and it left me completely underwhelmed.

The Tracer 900 is a nicer bike, and it's not just about the power. The only plus to my mind for the Suzuki is that the Tracer is heavier on fuel.
